“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

It has been three months ever since I joined New Creation Church and I am glad that I still having faith in the Lord, motivated to visit Church every Sunday just to hear the word of God, even I was all alone.

In the past, I would visit a church because my friends who decide to drag me along. When I met Samuel last year, I followed him to his church but I wasn’t eager to find out more about God. But this year, 2016, 3 January, everything just changed after hearing the sermon. It’s a like a wake-up call and something magical which I can’t really explain. I felt loved again and I felt the need to run in His arms. It felt like God was all along waiting for me to return back and that every moment in time, my heart soften and I fell right into His arms.

Looking back, my faith grew stronger with every Sundays, sermons I heard online and devotional readings I read through Pastor Joseph’s app. And today, it was my first time attending a church service on Resurrection Sunday. I might have attended church services on Resurrection Sunday before in my previous church but I didn’t felt that impact of the significance of this event till today.

The church played a video by Trinity Broadcasting Network with Pastor Joseph hosting that particular episode in the TV series called Golgotha. In the video, Pastor unpacked the bible verses of the part where Jesus was crucified and how he resurrected from his death. I’ve never understood Jesus’s death so clearly till today and I thank God for being able to receive the word.

I am compelled to share with you this powerful message that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that “for God so love the world that He gave his only son.”(John 3:16)

Can you imagine? A man so pure, sinless and full of love is being scourged then nailed to the cross to die for our sins? What shook me deeply is the last words of Jesus Christ which were depicted in the video showed today in church.

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”Luke 23:34

I can imagine how stunned the onlookers must have looked. A person who is about to die is seeking for forgiveness on our behalf from God. This is how much Jesus loves us till today – for eternity. Forgiveness of our sins must have meant something so important that Jesus spoke about it before his death. Love and forgive, people.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”- Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34

Noticed that Jesus did not mention ‘Father’ but ‘God’? I couldn’t quite catch what the Pastor was trying to say but according to some readings I read online, it was actually referring to the agony that Jesus felt from the separation of God. Father turned away from His Son as His Son atones for all of our sins at the cross.

The work at the cross is too beautiful. The work at the cross is the overflowing, unearned and undeserving love from God. No wonder my heart cries out knowing this greatest and undying love of all times. To the church, the bible is about grace. And grace stems from love. It is the force of love that makes the earth goes round.
