Turmeric has its place and significance in the beauty industry. The use of this medicinal herb dates back nearly 400 years ago in India where it was used as an ointment to treat various ailments. Today,    the Himalaya Drug Company is going back to the roots of beauty by introducing Turmeric and Neem as key ingredients in their new range of skincare products.

Himalaya has formulated a series of products consisting of Purifying Neem Face wash, Purifying Neem Foaming Face Wash, Purifying Neem Scrub, Neem Face Pack and Protecting Neem and Turmeric Soap.  These drugstore products are surprisingly very effective because the product formulation has got a good cleansing property and oil-control benefits. The key ingredient, Neem, is well-known for its antibacterial properties. It tackles bacteria from the root and prevents the recurrence of pimples and blemishes. As such, these products are highly recommended for those with acne-prone skin. On the other hand, Turmeric was known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties which help soothe the skin gently.

The Puryfing Neem Scrub gently buffs off the dead skin cells, without leaving your skin feeling taut or dry. I noticed that this facial scrub is not that drying on the skin as compared to the other facial scrubs which I’ve tested before.

The Neem Face Pack, in my opinion, is a star product in this range. Whenever I use this product, it reminded me of the Jamu spa session which I had. It also uses a similar kind of herbal mud that helps to soothe the skin and keep it soft and supple. Upon application, you will sense this immediate tingling sensation as the ingredients in the mask work together to regulate excess oil secretion, clean clogged pores and prevent the recurrence of pimples.  You will only need to leave it on for about 15 minutes or until the mask starts to dry up.

Based on the formulation, could you make a guess which is the Face wash, scrub and face pack?

We often neglect the skin covering the rest of our body. It is as important as our skin covering our faces. That is why Himalaya has also introduced the Protecting Neem and Turmeric soap. The oils of Neem and Turmeric, which contain antibacterial and antifungal properties, act as a natural antiseptic which protects your skin from harsh environmental conditions. It is a natural alternative to antiseptic soaps and body washes. It’s great that Himalaya came up with a soap bar instead of a body wash or gel. I prefer using soap bars these days because it is more eco-friendly as it requires less packaging. It is also more compact and convenient to bring it around.

But if you want to go zero-waste, you would make turmeric mask and cleansers from scratch using turmeric powder and some honey. I haven’t tried making a natural turmeric mask for myself yet but I heard that turmeric can stain your skin yellow. Thank goodness I could still enjoy the benefits of Turmeric without getting my skin stained with Turmeric with Himalaya products!

Isn’t that great news?
