Grissini – A Modern Italian Grill Restaurant

During our staycation at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, we dined Grissini which is one of the hotel’s newest dining establishment. It is a contemporary Italian grill restaurant which features oven-grilled seafood and meat which are fired over charcoal and flavored wood in their one-of-a-kind oven.

Their kitchen is helmed by Chef Antonio Cocozza from Naples, Italy. He has curated a menu featuring mainly on Southern Italian-style cuisine which includes dishes like pizzas and seafood.

We had a late dinner at Grissini on a Saturday evening and guess who we bump into that evening? We met one of the Singapore ministers who was also dining with us at the table behind us that day. It made our dining experience as memorable as the food was also lovely too.

Gelato Bar

Grissini also has its gelato bar stationed right outside the restaurant. This makes a perfect romantic dining spot for couples as you can have some gelato by the waterfront after dinner. How about enjoying a gelato-filled cone with your partner as the both of you enjoy an evening stroll along the riverfront? Does it remind you of Paris or perhaps Venice?

Grissini also has a private dining room called Bellissima which is located close to the open kitchen. It is great for hosting small celebrations like Birthday parties, anniversaries or corporate dinners.

What’s Grissini?

A quick search on Google has unraveled the mystery behind the origins of this restaurant. It turns out that ‘grissini’ is an Italian word which refers to Italian-style breadsticks. That explains why there’s a handful of grissini served in a tall cup at each table.

WARNING: These breadsticks are highly addictive!

For appetizers, you can dig into their signature long crunchy breadsticks and goes with the soup or salads they have on the menu. For the starter, I had it together with the mushroom soup I ordered.

Mushroom Soup ($14)

The mushroom soup came in a glass teapot which was later than poured onto a plate. It is Porcini mushroom soup served with Crostino and truffle oil. The soup didn’t impress me as much as the mains do. It might be because that the soup wasn’t warm enough or the absence of that savory mushroom taste that which I had expected it to have.

Linguine ($40)

I was glad that I made the right choice with this main dish. It’s linguine pasta with fresh Boston lobster cooked with Datterini tomatoes, Frascati white wine, topped with Sicilian extra virgin olive oil “Primo” D.O.P. and fresh parsley. On the menu, it says linguine, but I am pretty sure that the pasta they used that evening was Capellini, a thin variety of Italian pasta. Could the restaurant have run out of linguine or was I wrong?

Nonetheless, the dish itself still tastes delicious though. I love the sweetness of the lobster meat and that slight tanginess of the spices added to the dish.

U.S. Angus Beef Tenderloin ($44)

My partner was satisfied with his grass-fed Nebraska Sandhills beef tenderloin that was served with baby carrots, sautéed spinach, white asparagus and salsa verde sauce. It was done medium-rare, and the meat was tender.

White Chocolate Pannacotta ($13)

I thought that their pannacotta might taste like any other regular pannacotta, but I was wrong. Their version of pannacotta was superb. It was a white chocolate Greek yogurt pannacotta topped with marinated berries and a scoop of raspberry sorbet. It was light and creamy with the right amount of sweetness and tanginess.

Black Truffle Gelato

We also tried one of their unique gelatos – the Black truffle. It tasted like pure truffle mixed with milk. I love the taste of the truffles, but the combination of truffle with milk and sugar is way too much for my taste buds to handle. It isn’t a gelato flavor I would grow to like, but it is worth a try. You only live once, right?

My verdict: Food was overall good. The warm hospitality from their staff is what stood out the most for me. Service is excellent. Food is one thing and service is another. But it is always the human touch that forms lasting impressions on someone else’s mind.
