Movie Review: ParaNorman (2012)

This animated horror film movie is by far the better movies I’ve watched this year. This movie is incredibly good for the following reasons:

1) Amazing 3D effects for your eyes to feast upon

Animated film makers have brought animation up to a notch when they introduce 3D colour printer to create the character faces. Everything look unimaginably real in the movie itself. You could even spot the little spots and cute freckles on Norman’s rosy cheeks.

2) Great build-up in storyline that drives away boredom

I wouldn’t say the story plot is exactly fantastic but at least there’s a twist at the end of the movie which heightens the tension and anticipation in the movie. I likened it to a storybook that begins with a hook to arouse the interest of the audience and a beautiful and touching ending that will warm our hearts.

3) Short, sweet and to the point. Nothing more and nothing less.

To me, the duration of the movie is just as important because not many of us have got along attention span unless the movie is superbly fantastic to the point where I just couldn’t get enough of it. 92 minutes of fear, excitement, anticipation, warmth and tears is just about right for me to give this movie 4 popcorns!

4) Teaching point for the kids and a morale booster for the adults

“There’s nothing wrong with being scared as long as you don’t let it change who you are.” As Grandma said to Norman. In other words, be yourself. If you needed some inspiration in life,go watch this movie.

Message for the kids who get constantly bullied in school: It’s alright, kid. You just got to be strong. Team up with other kids who got bullied and don’t let others put you down.

The Big Bully

But Parents, you might want to think twice about bringing your kids to watch this movie in the cinemas. I don’t know whether you might scream in your seat when you know that one of the character is a gay and that Norman sometimes do uses uncouth words in the movie.

ParaNorman is an animated film about a boy named Norman who can talk to the dead. He is given the responsibility to remove the witch’s curse by reading her a fairytale to out her to a deep sleep for a year. But this time, he chose not to do so as he wanted to do something different this time to end the curse. What will this 11-year-old do to save his town from being haunted by Zombies?
