Outdoor Lunch at 1-Caramel : Restaurant Week Menu – The Sweet Berry Temptation

It’s so serene, peaceful and calm here. Like what Vanessa has said, Rochester’s the second Dempsey Hill. Unlike at Dempsey Hill, where the restaurants were all located right deep into the forested area, the restaurants here at Rochester Drive is so conveniently located not too far away from Buona Vista MRT Station. It just makes it a perfect location for meet-ups or gatherings with families and friends over brunch or coffee.

It’s pretty spacious over here at 1-Caramel. They’ve got seats both indoor and outdoor but since the tables indoor were all occupied, Vanessa and I had to sit right outside, on those resort-like cosy sofa rattans. It was lovely to bask right under the glowing sun but the weather these days is unbearably hot and humid. I felt like I was trapped in this massive giant oven this afternoon.

Since, 1-Caramel was part of the list of restaurants under the Restaurant Week, we decided to order their lunch set menu which comprises of an appetizer,main course and desserts for SGD25 ++.

When our mushroom soup came, I knew there was something different about this restaurant. The mushroom soup is nothing quite like the canned mushroom soup and it is one of the best mushroom soup I’ve ever tasted. In every spoonful of the soup, you got to enjoy all these real tiny mushy bits of wild fragrant mushroom on your palate. However, I just wish that the soup was heated up slightly as it was rather cold by the time it reaches our table.

For our mains, we had all-time American favourite, burger and fries as Vanessa had a craving for something western. Well, you just couldn’ go wrong with a plate of potato fries and the burger patty with cheese. It was mediocrely good with its crunchy fries and extra juicy meat patty.

When it comes to dessert, we were a little skeptical at first because the wild berry and pistachio mousse with wild berry compote doesn’t look very appetizing when the waiter served us. But we still have to eat it anyway since it is part of the lunch menu set. And the moment scooped a small bite sized of mousse into my mouth, I was like Woah! How could anything which looked like this could taste so good? 1-Caramel, you caught me surprise with this pleasant mousse dessert! Whoever is behind this creation of the wild berry and pistachio mousse deserves a standing ovation. This is one of those memorable dishes which I would never forget the moment when I first tasted it.
