A Letter to Audrey Hepburn

Dear Audrey Hepburn,

I’m Deenise and I’m 25 this year. I was compelled to write a letter to you to tell you how much I was inspired by your lovely quotes on love, beauty and fashion reading about your uplifting quotes online which make me felt like I could stood firmly in my beliefs just like how you stood by to yours.

You are a fashion and beauty legendary icon even til today. Though both of us are in two different worlds, I felt that I could relate to your thoughts, beliefs and philosophy about life. What came as a surprise for me was the fact that both of us were born on the 4 of May. You were born in the year of 1929 right in Belgium and I, in the year of 1988 in Singapore. That’s 57 years apart. Even though times have changed, your classic style and graceful personality still remains in the hearts of many people. Your name has came to be synonymous with elegance.

Many have expressed their wishes and desires to look and be like you. I also had my admiration for your beauty, sophistication and gracefulness but I also understood that I could never be like you because there just can’t be a second Audrey Hepburn after you. Rather than to act and look like you, I figured that I could just learn from you and live by your quotes each so that I could become stronger, braver and kinder each day.

“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn

I love to smile and laugh at every single thing but these days it was quite a difficult and awkward task to laugh about at anything. Laughing eases the pain and melancholy in anyone. So do this amazing thing called love which makes someone feel loved and appreciated. When I’m elated and felt loved, the joy to live will radiate from within. With that, I always see life as a pocketful full of sunshine and I never stop dreaming. That was how your words have impacted me as a person who embraces hope and happiness.

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.” – Audrey Hepburn
You’re a firm believer that inner beauty outshines outer beauty. The essence of a woman lies in cultivating the love for herself and others from within. The more she gives, the more she receives. And this is the message, I would like to pass on to all women – ‘ love to be loved.’

“I’m an introvert… I love being by myself, love being outdoors, love taking a long walk with my dogs and looking at the trees, flowers, the sky.” – Audrey Hepburn

I love the way you crafted your words so purposefully yet so naturally. Maybe that’s a flair which introverts are blessed with. You reminded me of being myself despite living in this world which favours extroverts. This quote of yours boosted the confidence in me and others when you expressed that it is perfectly fine to spend time alone doing things you love. In today’s context, that would mean that it is also perfectly alright to be eating alone, watching movie in the cinemas alone, travelling alone to a foreign country and walking alone on the streets. Being alone doesn’t meant that one is isolated from the world. I would have never dared to travel to Bali and venture the place alone this year if not for your words and soul which dwells deeply in me.
Looking back, I was amazed how your words could have been so powerful and influential to mould part of my life into what it is today. Your words will continue to me and others the strength to discover our own true beauty which has already been granted and embedded in all of us.And someday, I hope to be able to string words together to form meaningful quotes just like what you did so that I would be able to pass on your spirit and strength to others. I promise, I will never stop writing, dreaming and sharing. Blogging is just one step I took to fulfil my aspirations.
With love and gratitude,

P.S This is my 500th blogpost and I will still keep it on going til one day I am unable to do what I love.
