Cryotherapy @ Porcelain, The Face Spa – Ice Ice Baby

I hope it’s right of me to say that most of the facial treatments using machines either emit light or heat waves to enhance the penetration of ampoules or essence deep into the skin layers. Whether it’s radio frequency, IPL or laser facial treatment, there’s certain degree of warmthness you will feel on your skin. And to tell you the truth, I’m a bundle of nerves when undergoing such treatments that involves heat and light. My mind will be filled with imageries of my skin getting scalded or electrocuted by the machineries. What if the machine slips off the beautician hand and cause my skin to burnt? Maybe I am just thinking too much.
But the new facial treatment called cryotherapy which I’ve tried out a few days back at Porcelain, The Face Spa was somewhat different from the usual facials I’ve undergone. This time, I am getting the cold treatment – not literally per se, but yes, I’m subjecting my skin cells to coldness – the minus-degree-celsius-type of coldness. Now, the question is : Was I going to suffer from a frostbite?
Cryotherapy is nothing new to the beauty industry. This ice cold beauty treatment was used as one of the ways to banish fats. And apparently, it’s spectrum of benefits has now been widened to include erasing spider veins and ironing out aging lines. There’s no doubt about why this type of treatment is dubbed as a revolutionary breakthrough in the beauty and cosmetic world.

I was actually invited to attend the launch of this new beauty treatment by The Face Spa a few weeks back but needless to say, my hour-sucking job had make me take the back seat. But I was thankful that I was still given the opportunity to try out Porcelain’s cryotherapy facial ( using Korean technology) which is located in a shophouse along Cantonment Road.

Cryostamp (Needle-less mesotherapy)

Be prepared to get your skin stamped with tiny needles of 0.5mm in size. It is said to increase product penetration and absorption for face lifting, improve skin tone and texture and lighten acne scars. It also reduces pore congestion and dead skin tissue while increasing whitening and lifting effect in the epidermis layer.
There’s a little discomfort with the prickly sensation from the needles but the process is made more tolerable with the cooling technology of the cryostamp to reduce redness and risk of skin inflammation. My thoughts started to run wild and I asked the beauty therapist the following question, ‘Will this make my skin bleed?’ I was quickly assured that there wouldn’t even be a tiny droplet of blood that would ooze out of my skin.
Cryoprobe + Cryo-electrophoresis

This is where your skin gets rapidly cool to -10 degrees celsius to restore firmness, tone and radiance in your fatigued skin.Cooling of the skin surface causes vasoconstriction and vasodilation which stimulates microcirculation, promoting better oxygenation of dermal cells. It also enhances the penetration and absorption of products and also increases collagen production. I felt more relaxed and comfortable during this step as my skin is being chilled by the cryoprobe. I guess I prefered my skin to be chilled than to be heated. I almost dozed off into my beauty sleep.
Custom Blended Mask
As your skin takes a rest, instinctively it’s time for you to nap.
( The verdict: The face lifting effect was quite prominent. After the facial, my face was less puffy and appeared more radiant. In fact, my face looked slimmer and sharper. This, I would say, qualifies as the pre-party  or pre-wedding facial because it’s non-invasive and there’s no downtime.)

Besides heading back home with a brighter and cleansed face, I also brought back Porcelain’s skincare products which includes the makeup cleanser, deep cleanser, aloe vera gel, hydraclear gel, serum and masks. I was actually very impressed with their high quality products that really deliver results. Porcelain’s products, which are primarily gel-based, works great on my skin because my skin type could only work well with gel or water-based skin care products.
Even their bio-cellulose mask was AMAZING. I’ve never actually tried a mask which is made up of bio-cellulose which adhere so close to the skin that any creases on your skin are actually imprinted on the mask itself. The mask basically moulds itself to take the shape of your face. It’s truly quite an incredible facial mask! Not forget to mention that the masks leaves your skin feeling so firm and energized after the skin cells have soaked up all those nutrients.
So, if you’re heading down to Porcelain, The Face Spa to try their cryotherapy treatment, don’t forget to check out their products!
