Fantasìa by Escribà: Walking into Candylicious Wonderland

The best medicine for me isn’t laughter but chocolates! There were times when I wish I could be Charlie in Tim Burton’s famed movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where he gets the golden ticket to visit a sweeter-than-life fantasy world which was made almost entirely of chocolate. I could imagine myself licking chocolates off the walls and nibbling onto anything colorful and decadent. I guess that would be my wildest fantasy! But I guess I no longer have to fantasize about walking into a candylicious wonderland when Fantasìa by Escribà is coming to town to transform Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre into a grand landscape made almost entirely of chocolate, sugar and pastries!

Seriously, I am not kidding. I could finally experience what Charlie felt when he entered the Chocolate Factory. 

The world’s first-ever experiential confectionery extravaganza, Fantasìa by Escribà, is finally coming to our shores! It’s a first-of-its-kind event in the world which combines the spectacle of live theatrical production with awe-inspiring works of mouth-watering confections. During this extravaganza, you will not only get to view the live showcases, but also interact with actors, watch performances, and even take part in chocolate, sugar fondant, caramel and pastry master classes.

Getting all excited already? I couldn’t wait to sit on candy floss clouds, climb a real-life Baobab tree with real chocolate mint leaves and be surrounded by life-sized safari animals fashioned out of chocolate and meringue. All these jaw-dropping works are crafted by internationally renowned and acclaimed pastry couple, Christian Escribà, and his wife, Patricia Schmidt, who were known for their eye-catching and attention-grabbing gastronomic creations.

What is really worthy mentioning about this exhibit is the fact that efforts have been made to ensure that food will not go to waste. A majority of the confectionery masterpieces – including the chocolate cascade – will be dismantled after the show, refurbished and reinstalled at the premises of their brand partners. It isn’t just about saving the dollars and being socially conscious about food wastage but it’s also part of the eco-efforts to promote sustainability. Do you know that food wastage leads to wasteful use of chemicals? And when food decomposes, methane gas is released into the atmosphere as greenhouse gases?

I guess I wouldn’t have to worry about the chocolates and pastries going to waste as I tour around the 8 different pavilions, each with a specific theme that cater to both adults and children. This exhibit is an example of a dream turned into reality. I believe that it’s going to be a really inspiring, memorable and enchanting event in 2014!
