Canon G3X : Powerful Video Shooting Capability

UntitledI’ve always thought that Canon’s PowerShot G series of the compact camera which is meant for those who just wanted to high quality compact camera for photography. But you know something, the Canon G3X which I’ve just tested out recently completely blow my mind and changed the way I think about PowerShot G series of compact camera.

The Canon G3X is as good as or even better than Canon EOS M10 and the current Canon DSLR 650D (which is probably obsolete by now). It really goes to show how much Canon has advanced in terms of camera technologies, coming up with even more powerful cameras every now and then.

When I first held the Canon G3X, I was surprised by its weight. It’s as heavy as the Canon 650D (DSLR).  It may be a little bulky and heavy to lug it all around but it’s worth it when I could attain superior images and videos with this little gadget. Now, here’s why the Canon G3X is a revolutionary camera even though it is actually launched a year ago, around June in 2015.

Camera features:

  • It is powered by a large 1.0-inch CMOS sensor, enabling the camera to achieve superior image quality even in low light environments.
  • The camera features a 24-600mm 25x optical zoom lens and improved Zoom Framing Assist, which opens up a new range of imaging possibilities.
  • Users can expect enhanced movie recording through the camera’s improved Dynamic Image Stabilisation (IS) system, a technology that stabilizes moving images.
  • Derived from Canon’s EF lens technology, the PowerShot G3 X is designed to deliver stunning image quality even in high-speed shooting scenarios, with its high-quality lens fast autofocus capability.
These features explain why this intelligent camera can zoom in at a relatively large distance yet produces a high quality and sharp images. I actually filmed my beauty tutorial using this camera as I require the lens to zoom in and focus on my features as I apply makeup. The video looks incredible.

Lens Cap

I am for the detachable lens cap which is strung to the camera itself to prevent the user from losing the lens cap easily. You can’t have to worry about where you place the lens cap after removing it. I find it very useful for it to be tied to the camera itself.

Camera Operations

The grip of the camera was developed based on the design used for EOS DSLRs, which makes it easy for you to hold with adequate support and stability especially when shooting at high magnifications. The presence of a front dial and controller wheel, as well as an exposure compensation dial, make it really easy operate the camera with your right hand, just like an EOS DSLR. I personally didn’t really much on the manual functions because I am satisfied with the images that were taken when the camera is in the auto settings.

Features that Allows for Professional Video Shooting

In addition, the camera body is equipped with an external microphone jack, headphone jack, and HDMI output terminal, which allows for some serious movie shooting. Hey Youtuber, this is the type of camera you should be getting you are filming some a proper video.

Wi-Fi Connectivity for Sharing

The Wi-Fi and Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities of the camera allow it to connect to smart devices such as mobile phones and tablets. Once you are connected, you can seamlessly transfer images and videos via Canon Image Gateway, cloud storage, or any social media platforms. You can also make use of the app feature to perform remote shooting where you are able to operate the camera from a distance using your smart device.

New Zoom lens developed from EF lens technology

Powering the zoom is a high-speed and quiet Micro USM II (UltraSonic Motor) which could provide the user with the possibility of high speed focusing on a moving subject while maintaining a smooth operation for high-quality video and sound recordings with minimal noise disruption. This was the exact problem I faced when I was using Canon 650D during video recordings as the video captures the sound produced by the lens when it tries to focus on a subject by itself. It can be very irritating as the noise is distinct. I guess Canon has solved the noise disruption problem with this new technology in their EF lenses.

LCD Monitor

The clarity of the high resolution 1.62-megapixel 3.2-inch touch panel LCD monitor provides users with more focus accuracy, especially in macro photography. Thus, you are able to produce an image with a focus on the subject against a blurry background. The tilt-type LCD can tilt 180 degrees upwards and 45 degrees downwards. There’s no problem taking a selfie or doing a vlog with this camera.

Why am I even holding on to my Canon 650D and Canon G16 when Canon came out with such awesome cameras? My cameras were all backdated.
Hey, anyone interested in buying a second-hand Canon 650D DSLR from me? I need to get my hands on a latest Canon camera.
