To refine and unclog the pores, many would recommend that I go for clay mask which could naturally draw out the dirt and sebum. I often read reviews of this popular volcanic clay mask which has helped improve the oily skin problems of many users. But it just didn’t work as well for my skin.
I always felt that clay mask only makes the skin feel dry and tight. It might render some help in controlling the sebum production of my oil glands, but it just made my skin more dehydrated. To counter this problem, I ended up having to slap more moisturizer onto my skin or else it will lead to an overproduction of oil and sebum which clogs the skin. If you have been through the same cycle like I do, you would totally understand what I mean.
The question is, are there any other effective cleansing mask out there? Yes! I may not have discovered a fully natural or organic cleansing mask that does a fantastic cleansing action, but I really enjoy using the Cacao Duo Mask, a cleansing and renewal mask by KLARITY.
Klarity™ OxyMud Cacao Duo Cleanse and Renewal Mask (30ml)
KLARITY has been around in the market for quite some time and one of their signature product is Klarity™ Lasertox™ CC Miracle White Lotion. It’s a highly versatile lotion for various beauty benefits for maintaining a fair and youthful skin. And the founder of KLARITY, Cheong Karine Estelle, swears by this product. Their skin care products which are formulated in Singapore but manufactured in Korea, are cruelty-free and eco-friendly. It is also the first Halal-certified skincare brand in Singapore.
Their Cacao Duo Cleanse and Renewal mask would be their other signature product too. It is a unique chocolate mud mask that turns into foam upon application. It’s like giving your skin a lazy bubble bath without having you to exert any effort to scrub or rub your skin in a circular motion just to cleanse the pores. Chocolate bubble bath, anyone? It smells super delicious. After the ‘bath’, the pores on my nose and cheek area looks cleaner. It may not have cleaned out the stubborn and tough white heads at the sides of my face, but it did a good job to cleanse the pores at my nose and cheek area, leaving that area of my skin feeling softer and smoother than before.
There are several interesting plant extracts which are found in this product like Theobroma cacao, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Mentha Piperita Peppermint Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Flower Extract and other plant extracts. All these ingredients would help to soothe, smoothens, moisturize and stabilizes the skin. This makes this Cacao mud mask a multi-functional mask for all skin types.
How to use
1. Spread evenly on cleansed and dry face, avoiding eye and mouth areas.
(You don’t have to apply too much of the product, just a thin layer will do.)
2. Leave on for 15 minutes and allow it to foam up.
(It is totally alright to be looking like a tree monster at this stage.)
3. Wash off with water
(It can be quite difficult to wash it off. But do be patient and make sure you rinse it off properly.)
Other than the Cacao Duo mask, I get to try out another 3 of their products, namely- Diamond Glow™ EYE Nano Treatment, Diamond Glow™ Overnight Masque and Lasertox Miracle White CC Lotion.

This is an eye cream that really hydrates the eyes and brings about instant radiance to the area of application. This is due to the infusion of diamond powder which instantly brightens the eye, so I like using it during the day, just before makeup to lighten dark circles. But I would use it sparingly as the cream formula is quite rich. All you really need is a tiny bit of the product (about 3mm in diameter). This amount of product is enough for both of my eyes.
The Diamond glow overnight masque has this yellowish creamy texture. It is slightly buttery due to the presence of the Shea butter, which helps to keep the skin soft. It is described as a rich overnight mask that recalls your skin’s original DNA and restores to its best condition. It is also said to activate your skin’s natural moisture defenses and promotes your skin’s collagen production. But the effectiveness of this product could also be tested over a longer period of time with regular use of the product.
All you will need to do is to apply this product thinly over your skin and leave it overnight. The next morning, your skin will feel really supple and soft. It is a great mask to right after you use the Cacao Oxymud mask to further hydrate the skin. And with this mask, I don’t think you will need to layer your skin with moisturizer because I feel that this overnight mask is sufficient to keep your skin hydrated through the night.
True indeed, the products are fuss-free and it does somehow follow the principle of less is more. I am still trying to downsize the number of products I use for skin care and using such effective products is all you’ll need to maintain a great-looking skin.
