I’m back again for some yoga by Saakalya‘s very own founder and yoga instructor, Alexandra. It’s a little special this time as we get to practise yoga outdoors, in a beautiful green open space at Open Farm Community. It was a Chakra yoga session where we focus on our root chakras, opening our chakras to let the energy flow freely as we breathe deeply along with the green residents living bushes and plants around us.

Chakras are actually strong energy centres in our bodies. According to Aryvudic medicine, there are 7 chakras in our bodies from the top of our head to the base of the spine, which is our root chakra. It represents stability and the sense of groundedness.
Before the session, we did a mini quiz to find out how connected we are to our root chakra. Once you are able to realize the full potential of your root chakra, you will be able to experience true transformation and personal growth. It is the first chakra we should work with as it involves in building a stable foundation before opening the other chakras.
I enjoy such yoga sessions where you not only gain the physical benefits of yoga and clarity in your thinking but also knowledge about the inner self. It’s all about getting to know your body, mind, and soul. It’s definitely more than just the fitness aspect of it.

During the yoga session, we did a series of asanas to open up and heal our root chakras. The focus is more on the hips and the lower part of the body.

I came to realize the simplest and easiest pose can be somewhat challenging if you hold the pose for a longer period of time. Your body wanted to get out of the pose and that’s when you need to really focus on maintaining stability and balance. I learnt that you shouldn’t underestimate the basic yoga poses and it is always good to practise these basic poses and find out ways to deepen yourself into the pose.

It feels great to be doing yoga outdoors where your body gets warmed up naturally by the sun. As you move with each breath, the energy from the sun flows through your body and energizes you. And after a great yoga session, we had a breakfast treats from Open Farm Community.
Good company with like-minded individuals, some yoga, and some juice is all you will need to start the day right. Coffee isn’t always the answer.
