Caffè Vergnano: ‘Che Figata’ Italian Cafe at South Beach

‘Che Figata’ is an Italian slang that means cool or awesome. This Italian cafe at South Beach, right opposite Suntec City Mall, easily stood out among other coffee roasters in Marina Bay District area with its slow-roasted coffee beans, eco-chic furnishings, and green ethos. If I hadn’t stepped into this cafe and to discover its story, I would have thought that this was just another regular cafe serving Italian-style coffee.
I was there a couple of days ago to try out their new Christmas coffees. I don’t know about you but it is kind of like a tradition amongst us friends to do small meet-ups during December and sip special Christmas drinks at cafes over long hearty conversations. It is like a celebratory toast for us, signaling the start of the jolly season. At Caffè Vergnano, the festive cheers have already started. And drinking coffee here is made somewhat special here knowing that this cafe spares a thought for the environment too.

Their green features start from their recycled wood flooring and tables which are all made in Italy. Even their banquettes were made with eco-leather using natural plant fibre instead of animal skin. They also provide biodegradable takeaway cups and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified shopping bags. They also sell their very own compostable coffee capsules which are compatible with Nespresso machines so now you know where to get your biodegradable coffee capsules.

Peppermint Gianduja (Reg $6.50/Large $7.50)

It tasted like hot chocolate mixed with a dose of refreshing peppermint and hazelnut. If you have a sweet tooth, you could for this warm Christmas drink which is topped with a rich layer of whipped cream.

Cranberry White Marocchino (Reg $6/Large $7)

If you prefer something lighter, you can go for the Marocchino which is made with cranberry juice, white chocolate, and coffee. The coffee in it has this smooth consistency and it doesn’t have much of that acrid aftertaste which some coffees have.
If you prefer a cold beverage, you could go for the refreshing and tangy Fizzy Cranberry Cold Brew ($6.50) which made with cranberry juice, soda, and coffee and served in a celebratory martini glass. That makes a lovely evening cocktail to enjoy after a meal. And perhaps a slice of their coffee cake to go with your Christmas perk-me-up drink?

Caffè Vergnano 1882 Singapore is also offering their classic Italian cake Panettone ($49.50/750g) this Christmas. It is dome-shaped sweet bread loft with chocolate drops and strong notes of coffee. It makes a lovely cake to bring to Christmas parties or gatherings.
Caffè Vergnano also invites loyal customers to pick a present from the Christmas Dip (an Italian tradition called Urn of Fate) and win gifts of free coffee, espresso capsules, coffee workshops, merchandise and more.
