If you are a first-time contact lens wearer, you should always try out a few other brands of contact lens first before sticking to one. Generally, most contact lenses which are sold at Optical shops are okay and they fit comfortably to the curvature of my eyes. But my favorite has still got to be Acuvue. The quality of their products are consistent over the years but they are usually priced slightly more expensive than other brands. When there’s a promotion or discount on Acuvue, it’s definitely more worth the money.
I currently wearing glasses most of the time but on some days, I like to wear dailies and it just so happened that I ran out of my dailies. So I visited my nearest Optical shop, Nanyang Optical at Jurong Point for an eye check. I usually get my contact lens supply from Nanyang Optical which also happens to be Singapore’s first eco-friendly eyewear store. They are practicing a full cycle recycling system to encourage their customers to dispose of old spectacles, contact lens case and solution bottles into their recycling bins.
In Singapore, it is mandatory to get an eye check done by a certified optometrist whenever you are making a pair of glasses or purchasing contact lenses. It’s also good to go for regular eye checks especially if you are contact lens wearer (like myself) as we are more prone to get eye infections.
I was pretty much familiar with the eye check procedures so the whole process took me about less than 30 minutes. The optometrist would first by doing an accurate vision measurement for me to work out the prescription. She also checked the health of my cornea as well as detecting if there are any signs of UV damage.
At Nanyang Optical, there’s also a contact lens corner where you can do contact lens fitting to see if the brand of contact lens fit you. At this corner, the optometrist would also teach you some useful tips on contact lens maintenance.
Acuvue has just launched some of their newer products like ACUVUE® Oasys® 1-Day or 1 • DAY ACUVUE®MOIST® for Astigmatism. And they have also expanded their ACUVUE Define™ range as well. Since I preferred coloured lenses, I chose the 1-Day ACUVUE® Define™ in Radiant Bright. It is sort of like a natural dark brown lens which helps to enlarge the eyes and bring a natural shine to your eyes.
There are 30 lenses in each box. I had to purchase 2 boxes because my left eye has a higher degree than my right eye. The lenses only made my eyes appear much larger and color-wise, it is pretty much similar to my natural eye color. But what I really like about it is how moist it is! There is sufficient moisture to provide comfort to my eyes all day.

1Day Acuvue® Define® is retailing at $64/box.
