I have been to Shangri-la Hotel Singapore at Orchard for several times now and every time I walked past this exquisite fine dining Chinese restaurant, I would wonder to myself if I could actually find some gold ‘treasures’ in there. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant for a Dim Sum lunch.
I love the elegant interior of the restaurant with the red and gold accents which made this whole place looked really posh. There also serve a vast collection of wines and liquors over here.
We ordered a few of their signature dishes as well as some of my favourite go-to Cantonese Dim Sum. Other than the traditional Dim Sum dishes, they offered Dim Sums that has a creative twist to it. For instance, they serve Siew Mai with mini abalones and stuffed dumplings with beetroot and asparagus. We also chose a couple from their ala carte menu to try out.
The dishes which were to our liking were the Pan-fried Turnip Cakes, Steamed Crystal Dumplings with Beetroot and Asparagus, Deep Fried White Bait Fish and Fried rice wrapped and steamed in lotus leaf.
As for desserts, they do have quite a few from their extensive menu to choose from. We went with their Double Boiled Bird Nest with Rock Sugar and Traditional almond cream.
They adopted a creative and luxury approach to some of the dishes here. In addition, not many restaurants serve sustainably-sourced Bird Nest but over at Shang Palace, they do serve dishes that contains Bird Nest in it.
***Do note that they usually come in 3 servings per Dim Sum. It is on special request that they prepared 4 servings per dish. Price quoted below is the usual price of Dim Sum dish that has 3 pieces or servings each as indicated on their menu.
Pan-fried Turnip Cakes with Preserved Meat ($7)
Barbequed Roasted Pork ($18) with Mustard Sauce
