It is encouraging to see emerging brands of haircare products that have pledged to use biodegradable packaging and environmentally-friendly ingredients. One such hair care brand is Kevin Murphy which has finally hit our shores with their professional hair products. The man behind this brand is none other than Kevin Murphy himself who is a session stylist. It all started with his dream of coming up with styling products that meet his needs as a hair stylist. Due to his unsatisfaction with the current hair products in the market, he decided to create his own line of products that were designed to deliver performance, strength and longevity.
Eco-friendly Hair Care
The product formula made using natural ingredients sourced from companies which use micro cultivation, organic growing practices, or ecologically sound wild harvesting techniques. All of their products are sulphate-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free. Their minimalistic packaging is 100% recyclable or biodegradable. Even their brochures are made from recycled materials and have been printed using vegetable-based inks.
I got to try two of their products from Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate-Me range. This range is suitable for those who have naturally dry hair or are living in countries with a dry climate. It works great for coloured hair as it helps to protect your hair colour.
It is by far one of the most exotic-smelling shampoo and hair conditioners I have reviewed. Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate series features Kakadu Plum, an Aussie fruit which is high in Vitamin C. Both Hydrate-Me. Wash and Hydrate-Me.Rinse has a distinctive natural scent of Kakadu plum.
They weightlessly moisturise and soften your dry hair with Shea butter, Kakadu Plum and Orchid.
The design of the bottle is innovative. I believe that the cap positioned at the bottom of the bottle to allow the user to obtain the very last drop of shampoo; thus preventing any wastage. Slim and chic, it is a perfect accessory for a minimalistic bathroom.
Shampoo for Silky Hair
The shampoo is lightweight, and it creates a silky feel to the hair thanks to the addition of hydrolysed silk extracts that smoothen the hair surface. The pH of the shampoo is between 6.3 to 7 which is slightly acidic. This slightly acidic nature of the shampoo will help to close the hair cuticles which aids the hair shaft in retaining moisture. The inclusion of Jojoba Esters further moisturises the hair and increases the hair resilience to tangles and split ends.
The shampoo foams up very quickly, and all you need is a minimal amount of the product to wash your long hair. I recommend interchanging this hydrating shampoo with a scalp shampoo for a healthy balanced hair and scalp.
Hydrate-Me.Rinse: Moisturising conditioner
Sunscreen for the Hair
The conditioner contains Kakadu Plum, Jojoba Esters, Shea Butter and Evening Primrose Oil. It consists of Vitamin B7 for healthy hair growth and Micro-Algae for supplying energy to the cells found deep in the cortex layers of our scalp.
Interestingly, it also contains Sunflower Oil which acts as a natural sunscreen for the hair. Sunflower Oil is found to have Cinnamic acid which is a natural UV protector. The UV rays are indeed damaging to both our hair and skin. Your hair needs to be protected from the harmful UV rays as well.
This conditioner is a game changer. The efficacy of this condition is brilliant; in just one wash, you will be able to notice the difference in the texture of your hair. My hair is usually dehydrated as I often colour my hair. Right after using the conditioner, my hair felt so much softer. It is also more tame and manageable than before. I’ve tried using this conditioner on its own, and it worked really well too. It is a product worth investing it. Give it a couple more weeks, there should be a noticeable improvement in hair texture and shine in particular.
