Durian Jasmine Tea

Singaporeans love durians. This is one generalization I could make with some confidence because very few locals here that I know would actually say no to durians. I am also a huge fan of this unique Asian fruit which might appear pungent to some people. But to us locals, durians are the king of all fruits because it’s flesh is ultra creamy and sweet. Any desserts which have durian in it tasted particularly good. It’s no doubt that when Hi Tea’s D24 Premium Durian Jasmine Tea would taste very ‘shiok’ too. It’s almost like a Durian smoothie which is topped with a layer of durian cream. You could imagine how my eyes widened with excitement as I nodded in approval after taking my first sip of Hi Tea’s durian jasmine tea.

What’s the story behind Hi Tea?

Hi Tea Singapore is a local tea artisan brand which offers a variety of fruit tea blends at their flagship store in Far East Plaza. Recently, they have just opened their second outlet at Northpoint City. You’d be surprised to know that one of their founders is Singer-songwriter Nick Yeo. Together with his four other Singaporean friends, they started Hi Tea in hopes to promote Chinese tea drinking culture among the younger generation through their unique fruit tea concoctions. Using the latest tea brewing techniques, they have managed to come up with refreshing fruit tea blends which combine Chinese tea like Oolong tea with fresh fruits.

After months and months of research and development, they have come up with a series of cold brew fruit teas using Jasmine and Oolong teas along with freshly-sliced fruits. No artificial flavorings are used in their drinks.

Recommendations

Besides their must-try signature Durian jasmine tea, I also like their cold brew fruit teas like Mixed Fruit King ($5.80) and Watermelon Snow ($$4.80).  Mixed Fruit King proves to be one of their most popular fruit tea as it has huge chunks of freshly cut pineapple, watermelon, lime, strawberry and passion fruit soaked in cold brew oolong tea. This tropical goodness complements so well with the distinct smoky aroma in Oolong tea.

Their cloud tea series might pique your interest if you are into ‘cheese teas’. The cloud teas are topped with a cream layer made with milk and a hint of salt. The crowd favourites are Cream Cloud Lychee Red ($4.80) and Cream Cloud Oolong ($4.20).

My favorite has got to be their Durian Jasmine Tea, but their cold brew fruit teas and cloud teas are all equally good. It’s difficult to pick my other favourites off the menu.

These cold-brewed fruit teas are highly refreshing and energizing! Great for beating the heat and humidity in Singapore.
