Walking on ‘Crystal Lotus’ is Magical
Our trip to Hong Kong Disneyland was made even more memorable with this Dim Sum lunch experience at Crystal Lotus. This Chinese restaurant, located at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, is an award-winning restaurant. If you are into food, you have to make a trip to Crystal Lotus which offers one of the best Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong.
Crystal Lotus is also where you can enjoy a Disney-themed Dim Sum. However, you will need to book 48 hours in advance. We went there on a Monday afternoon and the restaurant was almost full. Thus, a reservation is a must.
The restaurant’s décor is inspired by the five basic elements – wood, metal, earth, fire and water. Each of these elements is represented in their furniture, tableware, walls and carpets.
Also, look out for the lotus motifs which can be found in this majestic restaurant. If you have a kid with you, keep them occupied by asking them to count the number of lotus motifs they can find.
How Awesome are these dishes?
I cannot find any flaws in any of the dishes shown below. Do you know that even the Chilli XO sauce we had tastes amazing? I should have gotten an autograph of their Executive Chef Leung Shu Wah.
The dishes we had is part of the tasting menu which is specially catered for us. In addition to the Disney-themed Dim Sum items, we also had their Chinese fine-dining specialities on our menu.
Crystal Lotus XO Chili Sauce
Crystal Lotus XO Chili Sauce is made with high quality dried scallops, Yunnan dry-cured Ham, Shrimp Roe and Red Chili. It does not consist of any artificial additives or preservatives. This tasty sauce enhances the taste of every dish.
Chrysanthemum Tea
The tea is very fragrant and it is just interesting to find out that they actually label the teapot cover with the name of the tea.
Disney Dim Sum: Three Little Pigs Barbecue Pork Bun, Little Green Men Pork and Vegetable Bun, Mickey’s Seafood Glutinous Pancake
I could not bear to bite Mickey’s ears or Little Green Men’s mouth off. They are just too cute to be eaten. But are they delicious? I enjoyed Mickey’s Seafood Glutinous Pancake which goes well with the XO Chili sauce. But the dishes which swept me off my feet are the ones mentioned below.
Double-boiled Chrysanthemum, Beancurd and Sea Whelk
Can you see that white glob in the soup which looks like a sea urchin? I have been figuring that out for the longest time before I had mustered the courage to take a soup of it. It turned out to a small block of beancurd which had been sliced in a way to resemble a blossomed flower. How creative! The soup itself was very fragrant and delicious too.
Beef Tongue Wrapped with Abalone
I don’t think I’ve tasted beef tongue before but what I do know is that beef tongues have a high-fat content. It has this chewy texture to it. Because it is well-prepared, it tasted quite good.
Garoupa Fillet Dumpling
This dish resembles their award-winning ‘Two Fish Dumplings in a Lotus Pond’. The one we had is probably a down-scaled version of it. This dish is a work of art on its own. It is not only pleasant to look at but delicious too.
Braised de-bone Short Rib with Chinese Pear in Red Wine Sauce
I’m not a fan of beef but this short rib is delicious. The short rib chunks went well with the sweet Chinese pear.
Braised Baby Spinach with Matsutake Mushroom and Bamboo Piths
I would love to have this dish with a bowl of rice. But we were too full then.
Double-boiled Whole Chinese Pear topped with Aged Mandarin Peel, Mickey’s Wintermelon Cake
Our Dim Sum experience was completed with a Chinese pear dessert and Mickey’s Wintermelon cake which tasted more like a biscuit. It is very comforting to have the warm boiled pear as a dessert.
After our Dim Sum lunch, don’t forget to explore the beautiful hotel grounds! It is a pity for us as we have to rush back to Hong Kong Disneyland Park to queue up for more rides.
