It’s been almost a year since I’ve last visited Origin Bar at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. Time sure flies, and just a week ago, they turned one!
Origin Grill and Bar
The Origin Bar is located at the Lobby level of Shangri-la Hotel, adjacent to Origin Grill, a restaurant which serves clean, farm-to-table meals prepped with premium produce that is sourced from around the world. Their Chef de Cuisine is Heidi Flanagan and the food there is amazing!
In contrast to the brightly-lit and spacious dining area at Origin Grill, the Origin Bar is a different world on its own. The bar’s dark and classy interior exudes underground bar vibes. It’s sexy, mysterious and elegant at the same time.
Their cocktails are absolutely out of this world.
These are beautifully crafted by their bar manager, Adam Bursik. Each one is inspired by the colours, flavours and historical anecdotes of the various key heritage sites here in Singapore. I believe that their upcoming new cocktail menu will open up to more surprises.
New on the Menu
In celebration of their first anniversary, they have launched a new cocktail menu which will be debut on 30 January 2019. Here are the three which we’ve tried during their first anniversary party.
Ma-Sa-la
Ingredients: Masala spices, lemon, milk wash, single malt whisky, dry gin
I love how they’ve incorporated Masala spices into the mixture of dry gin and whisky, giving the drink a refreshing undertone. It’s a bold move to utilize such exotic spices in a drink. Yet somehow, they’ve managed to nail it with this concoction.
Lear Black
Ingredients: America Gin, Jenever, Butterfly Pea Flower, Lavander, Citrus
This is definitely a fun one to have as it involves some hands-on experience.
The Lear Black comes with a glass of lemon juice and a large glass cocktail shaker, with the rest of the concoction in it. The bluish tint in the cocktail is due to the presence of butterfly pea flower essence.
The cocktail is mixed in the shaker (by, you guessed it, shaking) and then poured into the lemon juice. Watch how the bluish tint in the shaker changes colour as it mixes with the lemon juice! Unveil your inner bartender in you with this drink!
The science behind this drink is the neutralization between the acidic lemon juice and alkaline butterfly pea flower essence.
Hurricane Billy
Ingredients: Mace, Cocoa, Salted Banana Vermouth, Scotch Whisky
Unlike the two previous cocktails ( which are more palatable and easy to drink), Hurricane Billy has a stronger alcoholic kick to it. If you can take Whisky shots, this could be the sort of cocktail you’re after.
With these mesmerizing beverages and some great live music, Origin Bar should be next on your list of bars to go.
