My Post-extraction Skincare Routine

Your face is red and your skin looks bumpy after a thorough facial extraction. I know that there are ladies who would freak out after seeing the post-extraction redness all over their skin. Fear not as this is rather normal after a facial extraction especially if you have very clogged skin.

My recent visit to Indulgence Beauty, for instance, had left my skin looking red and very bumpy as the therapist did a more thorough extraction on my skin, seeing that my skin was very clogged that day.

I already had expected this to happen so I did not arrange for any appointments after my facial. And for the next couple of days, I was prepared to allow my skin rest and restore naturally.

Post-extraction Skincare Tips

What did I do to lessen the redness and speed up the skin recovery process? Fret not, I’ll share with you some of my post-extraction skincare tips which really helps to alleviate redness in my skin and achieve that post-facial flow.

Soothe, cool and hydrate the skin

Right after extraction

Immediately right after the extraction procedure, it is usually followed up by a skin soothing step. In my case, they sprayed cool mist onto my skin and massage my skin gently with crystal jade balls. These steps are crucial in reducing the post-extraction redness and swells in our skin.

For some therapists, they will wet pieces of cotton wool with rose toner and leave it on the skin during extraction. All these practices help to calm the skin and initiate the skin recovery process.

Skincare at home

Likewise, at home, you should be applying more hydrating and skin rejuvenating toner, serums and moisturisers. Using skin care products which contains ingredients like rose, aloe vera, vitamin E and Centella Asiatica. Avoid using products which contain harsh and potentially-irritating ingredients like retinol and salicylic acid.

Gentle cooling massages

You can even use a jade face roller or a spoon (which is taken out of the fridge) to massage your skin gently so as to reduce the redness and inflammation in your skin.

My Post-extraction Acne Skincare Routine

As for me, I would try to use a gentler, creamier and less drying facial cleanser to cleanse the skin. Then I would swipe my skin gently with a cotton pad soaked with toner to remove any remaining dirt or debris. Next, I would apply a hydrating serum all over my skin. Lastly, I would mix in a drop of Vitamin E oil into a dollop of my water-based moisturiser and then massage it all over my skin.

A couple of days later, I would also use a moisturising wash-off cream mask to further replenish moisture loss in the skin. If you want your skin to recover without scarring, then it is crucial to keep your skin supple and hydrated.

Usually, my skin would clear up within a week or so. And during this period of time, I avoid using makeup and facial scrubs on my skin.
