I am not exactly nuts about peanut butter (like some people do) but I do enjoy it occasionally as it goes really well with biscuit crackers and toasted bread. It is also a fantastic smoothie and acai bowl topping. And ever since I was into clean eating, I’ve been depending on peanut butter as a source of protein and Vitamin B6.
Only recently, I got myself acquainted again with peanut butter again. And out of all the natural peanut butter brands I’ve tried in the market, Mother Earth Natural Peanut Butter tasted the best. They nailed it with the right consistency, taste and texture. Because it is so darn good, I had to share it with the world.
Mother Earth Natural Peanut Butter
They have recently revamped packaging and they now store their peanut butter in these plastic jars. It might not be the most eco-friendly packaging but I appreciate the use of plastic jars as it is so much lighter and travel-friendly. Kids could also easily reach out for some peanut butter without having to worry if it slips off their tiny hands.
High Oleic Peanuts
Mother Earth’s natural peanut butter is made using 100% high oleic peanuts. What exactly are high oleic peanuts? There are simply peanuts that have a higher amount of oleic acid (also known as monounsaturated fatty acids) than regular peanuts. Monounsaturated fatty acids are considered to be healthier as it helps reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) and boost HDL (good cholesterol).
Then, they added a little salt to the peanut butter to enhance the taste. And that’s about it! While other brands of peanut butter contain sugar, emulsifiers or other preservatives, Mother Earth Natural Peanut Butter does not contain any of these.
Rejoice when you see this peanut oil pool
Do not panic when you start to see the layer of oil float above the peanut butter. In fact, when you see that the oil floats to the top, you know that this jar of peanut butter does not contain any emulsifiers or additives. It just goes to show how pure the peanut butter is!
Even when you make your own natural peanut butter from scratch at home, the oil from the crushed peanuts will separate itself from the creamy peanut butter layer and floats after some time. It is all due to the difference in density.
So, can you eat the peanut oil layer?
Don’t pour out the peanut oil layer too quickly yet! In fact, you will need to stir and mix the oil with the peanut butter to create this smooth and creamy peanut butter spread. If you drained out the oil, the peanut butter layer will be so dry that it becomes hard to scoop it out from the jar.
Yes, you can eat the peanut oil layer. After all, the oil is obtained naturally from the peanuts. But I wouldn’t recommend you eating peanut butter out of the jar. Less is more. Too much of a good thing can be bad for your body.
For Mother Earth Natural Peanut Butter, it contains the right amount of oil to peanut butter ratio for a smooth creamy consistency. It is unlike other peanut butter brand which I have dried. They tend to dry up very easily even with the oil layer. And they do not usually have an even consistency of smoothness.
Interesting Peanut Butter Variants
Mother Earth currently has 5 variants peanut butter. In addition to the classic smooth and crunchy peanut butter, they have a Chia Seed Peanut Butter and LSA Blend Peanut Butter.
Chia Seed Peanut Butter
For me, I find this variant to be a little drier since they added chia seeds to it. I love Chia seeds but I rather have it separately as a topping. The same goes for their LSA Peanut Butter variant which has linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds mixed into it. Additional ingredients to the peanut butter simply take away the nutty taste of the peanut butter.
Nonetheless, the addition of chia seeds is an added source of good fats. It is good to kick start the day with some omega-3 fatty acids too.
Classic Smooth Peanut Butter is still the best
I personally prefer Mother Earth’s Natural Smooth Peanut Butter which is incredibly very smooth. If you are making Peanut Butter and Jam (PJ) sandwich, this is the kind of peanut butter you would want to go for.
Natural Peanut Butter wins
Once you have tasted natural peanut butter, I swear that you will never go back to commercial peanut spread brands which have added sugar and preservatives.
And as for me, I am probably going to stick to Mother Earth Natural Peanut Butters. Because all you need is a little to enjoy the natural taste of peanuts.
