One of the things on my bucket list is to make a trip to India. I’ve been dreaming about it the whole time but the opportunity hasn’t come knocking on my door yet. In the meantime, I am just glad to experience a part of India in one of our local heritage sites – Little India where there are plenty of Indian restaurants, eateries and shops selling spices, flower garlands, fabrics and many more.

Copper Chimney

I have not particularly checked out all the Indian eateries there yet but I recently made a trip down to Copper Chimney, a North Indian and Chinese-Indian restaurant which is located just right opposite Mustafa Centre. The food is decent and customers can select from a wide variety of Indian halal food from their revamped menu. Besides, this is probably one of the more unique Indian restaurants that offer Chinese-Indian food. I don’t think I’ve ever tried Chinese-Indian cuisine before!

They provide a really comfortable setting which provides a genuine Indian dining experience for all. We were there on a weekday evening and the restaurant was packed with diners. Their Indian staples like curry and naan did not disappoint at all and I am hoping to head back there again.

The Menu

Copper Chimney offers North Indian and Chinese-Indian cuisine which appeals to both local and international palates. Their curries are overall not that spicy but still very appetising. They offer a variety of Indian breads, Biryani, snacks, drinks and even desserts.

Besides indulging in all of their typical Indian food, be sure to try out some of their Chinese Indian dishes too.

We started our feast with some refreshing Mango Lassi and Mint Calamansi. These drinks are served in tasting portions so that we can try out other drinks during the media tasting session.

Masala Roomali

For appetisers, we had this delicious lip-smacking good Masala Roomali or Masala Papad. It tasted like papadum tapped with the delicious Masala toppings like tomatoes and onions that enhance the taste of it.

It was crunchy and it makes a great starter or snack to have before the actual meal.

Salmon Fish Tikka

Next up, we had the Salmon Tikka which is cooked using Copper Chimney’s custom made tandoor. I have hardly eaten any fish dishes at an Indian restaurant before and to me, it was definitely rather strange to have Salmon fish tikka which is cooked with Indian spices and yoghurt. But if you’re a salmon lover, why not?

Kurkuri Bhindi

This is another great appetiser to start with. It’s a plate filled with crispy deep-fried okra or ladyfingers. Up your fibre intake with this crispy dish before moving on to the curries and naan.

Sultani Seekh Rice Platter

For the main courses, we have this Sultani Seekh rice platter that comes with a long sausage-like Chicken and mutton kebabs nestling on a heap of long-grain rice mixed with raisins. This dish will definitely fill you up and it is best to complement this with some curries.

Triple Szechwan Rice

This is one of their Chinese Indian dishes which is like a fusion of Chinese and Indian ingredients. It is apparently a mumbai street food which comes with some meat, fried rice, Hakka noodles and spicy gravy.

Masala Tea

We also tried another typical Indian beverage – Masala tea – which is a fragrant spiced tea mixed with some milk. It is suppose to help aid in your digestion and relieves bloating thanks to its powerful blend of rich black tea, herbs and spices.

Naan and Curries

Here comes the highlight of our meal as I love dipping my naan into curries. We had three different types of naan along with Lucknow Murg Korma, Madras Prawn Curry and Chicken Lababdar. My favourite curry has got to be their Lucknow Murg Korma, a type of white curry that tasted so rich, flavourful and creamy.

Their naan are great too. Whether it is plain or flavoured ones like Chili Cheese naan, this unleavened flat bread is delicious and are best eaten with some curry.

Pista Rasmalai + Jalebi with Rabdi

Last but not least, we had some traditional Indian desserts – Pista Rasmalai and Jalebi with Rabdi. Both are common Indian sweet treats which are usually eaten during breakfast or after a meal.

Pista Rasmalai is an Indian Bengali sweet treat which comprises of Indian cottage cheese (Paneer) soaked in sweetened milk topped with crushed pistachios.

Next up, we had Jalebi which is shaped like a massive piece of pretzel. It is a sugary festive treat which is made of a deep-fried flour batter coated with a layer of sugar syrup. It is best eaten with some sweetened condensed milk called Rabdi. This dessert is totally worth a try even though it might spike up your sugar levels.

Just try it and have a taste of India. This is the closest I could get.
