Once every few years, it is nice just to give yourself a makeover or a transformation to kick things up again. It could also mean giving your wardrobe a new lease of life or even switch up your skincare routine for a change. Likewise for Mary Chia, they have decided to do the same so as to keep up with the changing times and current trends in the beauty industry.

I’ve visited their newly-renovated outlet at Jurong Point recently. And I was impressed by their additional state-of-the-art facilities. It is also their very first outlet which opened in 2009.
Taking beauty and wellness to the next level
The re-branded Mary Chia will focus on research, Science and Technology. In addition to the developing of more effective and customised beauty treatments involving the use of the latest technologies, they are also working closely with Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to innovate of new product formulations.
I had the opportunity to try out one of their signature skin treatments which utilises one of their advanced skin devices. I went for their CrystalLite Pro Face rejuvenation treatment. It basically targets acne and pigmentation. It was definitely a treatment which I need as my major skin concern right now is acne and pigmentation.
First, a cup of tea
Their modern and sophisticated interior is a juxtaposition to nearby beauty and wellness centres. It has an inviting atmosphere which brings you into a zen mode the moment you enter the consultation area.
I was offered a cup of blue pea flower tea as I sat down to have a brief consultation with their aesthetician. These are the minute details which had made Mary Chia stood out from the rest of the beauty salons.

Upon entering the treatment room, you can opt to have your belongings stored in one of these wooden lockers. You may also chose to leave your belongings in the treatment room.

The well-thought-out design of each treatment room features a high ceiling frame as well as a feature wall so that the room look more spacious.
CrystalLite Pro Face Rejuvenation Treatment
This is a 30-minute treatment which involves the use of their multifunctional IPL aesthetic device to target acne and pigmentation. But for my particular treatment, they added a double-mask procedure for me. Thus, the whole process took about 45 minutes. And the results are really promising so read on further to find out more!
After cleansing my skin, the aesthetician added this really thick layer of cooling gel all over my skin. The cooling gel will help bring down the temperature of the skin as the device emits a strong bursts of light and heat onto my skin.
I would say that the procedure is very much similar to IPL except that the heat is not so intense and there is no ant-biting sensation. In general, it is more bearable then the previous IPL-type of treatments I did before. However, the intense pulsating light can be rather overwhelming and shocking for my senses.
Pulse, pulse, pulse
The blinding flashes of lights and occasional intense heat on some areas of my skin did bring some discomfort. Personally, if given a choice, I would rather go for a simple facial than a machine-aided treatment. But since I wanted to lighten my pigmentations, I knew I had to rely on technology to get the results I wanted.
Thank goodness the main treatment step isn’t too long. After about five to ten minutes, the aesthetician started to scrape off the cooling gel. Then, she applied a facial mask layer onto my face.
I highly recommend that you do a mask to end off any skin treatments because the mask will help to soothe any irritations and calm your skin.
The Results
The stark differences in my before and after photos is probably due to the position of the light and not the treatment itself. But if you examine closely, there are some improvements in my skin texture. One of the more noticeable difference is the size of my pores. It looks smaller in the after photo.
I also noticed that the dark circles around my eye appear to be lighter after the treatment. The results after one treatment are pretty impressive. However, it would probably take another 5 more sessions of the same treatment to witness a greater improvement.
No pain, no gain. You just can’t deny the fact that machines do have an edge over skincare products.
Other Facilities
Once the treatment was completed, the aesthetician lifted up the top lid of the shelf to reveal this hidden dressing table. They even provide a comb so that you can neaten up your hairdo right before you head off for your next appointment.
This outlet is also equipped with a changing room, sauna and showering cubicle for those customers who are here for their body and slimming treatments.

It is hard to imagine how this flagship outlet, which is located at Basement one of Jurong Point, can house all these fantastic facilities. But I have to say that it is a very well-equipped beauty and wellness centre that offers highly-customised treatments that are tailored to suit your needs.
