Food Republic @ Shaw Lido:A unique Integrated Opening Dining Food Atrium
Food Republic has been stepping up their game recently with their newly revamped outlet at Shaw Lido. It has undergone an extensive refurbishment and it looks nothing like the other Food Republic outlets.
On my first visit, I knew that this outlet is targeted at millennials by changing up the interior and introducing more pop art elements to add vibrancy to the whole atmosphere here.
Do you even call this a food court?
The newly refurbished Food Republic @ Shaw Lido looks new, clean, swanky, colourful and most important of all, ‘

That evening we had a really hearty meal with drinks and live music.
What about the food at Food Republic@ Shaw Lido?
On the outside, things may look really attractive. What about the inside? On my first visit, I had a $4 Mee Soto and it was so good. And who knows I would be back again so soon?
During this media tasting evening, I tried food from Frank’s Western Kitchen, JuFu Mala Kitchen and Jufu de Cha. These are some of the brand new stalls which have just started their businesses at the newly refurbished Shaw Lido outlet. And the food is, nonetheless, not disappointing at all. The restaurant-quality food they offer is also priced affordably.
JuFu De Cha
This bubble tea store offers quality teas, fruits teas, cheese teas and boba milk teas. Their brown sugar milk drink only costs $3.20 and it’s pretty good. I love their fruit teas which are infused with quality teas brewed from tea leaves by W-teas.
Affordable Quality Fruit Teas at $3.20 only!
I tried their Grapefruit with green tea and it was amazing. This really beats any fruit teas which I’ve tried. And it only costs $3.20? It’ really a steal. If I am ever coming to Orchard, I will have my bubble tea fix here.
They serve in 500-ml sized cups like the ones shown below. It’s crazy to discover how affordable these beverages are! It’s definitely a hidden gem.
Chinese Tea Drinking Session
Do you know that you can enjoy some authentic Chinese tea here at this elongated wooden table? For a small fee, you can enjoy freshly brewed Chinese tea here at this Chinese tea table.
I was pleasantly surprised these antique-looking table with an open fish aquarium. We were staring at the tiny guppies swimming to and fro in the water as we sipped Chinese tea.
That evening, the founder of W-teas, Rick Pua, was there to share with us some interesting facts about teas. We had an interesting conversation and we will be meeting him again to learn more about tea drinking in general. So, keep a lookout for our next blog post!
Frank’s Western Kitchen
This western stall delivers casual fine dining meals at affordable prices. You can enjoy restaurant-style western food like steak, duck confit and salmon.

Craving for some premium steak? You can select meat from their top-notch cuts of steak from Australia, USA and Japan. What’s more attractive for me is their pricing once again. Where else can you enjoy a premium steak and grilled salmon fish for under $10?
Premium Steak ($8.90)
Grilled Salmon Fish ($8.90)
Duck Confit ($18.90)
Our favourites are their duck confit and grilled salmon fish. The meat was tender and the flavours are well-balanced. These are well-executed dishes which are so affordably priced.

JuFu Mala Kitchen
Chong Qing Grilled Fish ($25+)
I could not stop bragging about how fresh and delicious their seafood is as well as how everything was priced so affordably. We all know costly fish is in Singapore. For less than $30, you get to enjoy a big grilled fish great (cooked to your liking) for 3 to 4 pax.
You know the fish is fresh when the meat is tender, flaky and tastes sweet. The tenant of JuFu Mala Kitchen quipped that they had to be at the fish market by 3 am in morning just to get the freshest sea produce!
Mala Hot Pot ($9+)
If you are into Mala hotpot, you can pick any ingredients you want from their array of hotpot ingredients. Then the chef will mix in their homemade Mala sauce and garnished it with some ground peanuts.
JuFu Mala Kitchen’s Shovel Handled Seafood
It’s my first time eating shovel-handled seafood. And it was quite a picture-worthy moment when the chef came to our table with a large metal shovel of seafood.
We shoved almost everything into our stomach because it was so delicious. From its savoury spicy sauce to the tender seafood meat, it’s one of the most enjoyable seafood platter I had thus far.
The seafood platter comprises of crab, crayfish, crawfish (like the one shown below), clams, mussels and prawns. They are garnished along with lotus, mushrooms, chilli and coriander.
Do you know what goes well with seafood?

Fragrant Spicy Crawfish ($28.80)
If seafood platter is too much for you to handle, then try their fragrant spicy crawfish instead. You can ask for gloves when you are eating seafood. You can determine how spicy you want this dish to be. This works out great for those who just want to enjoy some seafood as a side.
Zha Jiang Mian (On the secret menu)
I am not too sure if Zha Jiang Mian (or noodles with soybean paste) is on their menu but I am pretty sure you can ask for it while you are there. If you are craving for some carbs or noodles, you odd to try their Zha Jiang Mian.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried Zha Jiang Mian proper but this was so good. The soybean paste has eggs in it too. The eggs not only helps to thicken up the sauce but it also made the sauce more fragrant.
It was indeed a good Chinese restaurant-quality meal. Oh wait, you mean these seafood and Chinese delicacies are found at the basement of Shaw Lido at Food Republic?
For a moment, I thought I was eating at the restaurant.
Are there similar Chinese Mala stalls in other Food Republic outlets? Yes! Check it out here.
