I had a staycation at M Social Singapore!
During my staycation at M Social Singapore, I participated in the Cocktail creation workshop by their resident Mixologist as well as the perfume-making workshop by Maison 21G. I gained first-hand experience on two of the staycation packages listed above!
Both workshops lasted about an hour or so and I enjoyed every bit of it because it’s very interactive and you get a hands-on experience of customising your own drinks or perfume.
Cocktail Creation Workshop by Mixologist, Vladyslav Yesepiv
I’ve personally met Vlad a couple times and he is pretty eccentric and creative with his drinks. To sum it up, his cocktail concoctions are just out of this world. And he is a serious instructor because he is very passionate about bartendering! During the session, he kept asking questions so that we are also cognitively engaged while learning how to mix the drinks together.
He prepared glasses of spirits and shots of juices and syrups for us to smell and taste. To guide us through the process of customising our own drinks, he got us to use our sense of smell to differentiate each of the drinks placed before us.
Making our own cocktail!
After explaining the basics of cocktail making, he asked us to pick a spirit and four other drinks to make our very own cocktail.
I prefer refreshing cocktails that taste sweet and fruity. So I opted for strawberry syrup, caramel syrup, lemon juice and pineapple juice along with some rum.
He provided us to with our shaker as well as a cocktail jigger to measure out and pour the right amounts of syrups or alcohol into the shaker.
To add some ‘decorations’ to cocktail (so as to make it more alluring), he taught us how to make our own cocktail decor using some sugar and citrus fruits like lemon and orange.
So what do we do with these two ingredients? He passed us a blow torch to caramelise the sugar with the fruit. The intense heat releases the aromatic citrus compounds in the fruit and mixes with the burnt sugar. Genius!
Once done, he asked us to remove the caramelised sugar layer and place it our glasses. My cocktail tasted so yummy that I finished it in one gulp. It’s like the perfect fruity cocktail drink which I envisioned.
And that’s not all! We even got to bring back an M Social cocktail shaker too. Maybe it’s time I set up a mini bar at home to mix my own drinks. I actually wish that the bartending workshop was a little longer so that we can learn more about making cocktails!
Perfume Workshop by Maison 21G
If you are into scents, you are going to enjoy this workshop which allows you to customise your scent. The scents are provided by Maison 21G and they smell super lovely!
The workshop is conducted in their function room at level 5. It is kept to a small group of 4 participants due to the current safety management measures.
Create a perfume that fits your personality!
During the workshop, we are asked to complete a personality quiz on Maison 21G website. Based on your personality traits, four combinations of scent blends will be suggested to you for your consideration.
Based on the recommended scent mix, we were then asked to spray the two different scent blends on the perfume testing strips. Then we had to take a whiff of the new scent combination and pick a scent combination we like.
I really like the combination of their Patchouli Power and Poetic Pear. But I felt that it lacked another scent to make it smell more refreshing. So I decided to pile another scent over it and it is the Rhubarb Rhapsody. It is such a pleasant floral scent which smells very uplifting!
Once we chose our scent blends and fix our own ‘scent recipe’, we have to add them into a bottle of alcohol.
And that’s it really! A bottle of your own customised scent which is packed nicely for you to bring home.
Each of these experiences are unique and very personalised since it is conducted in small groups so I guess you could say that it’s one of the perks in this post-COVID-19 world? Whatever it is, let’s just make the best out of every situation.
