The viral shaved ice shop, Sakanoue, one of Tokyo’s popular Japanese Kakigori spots, has reach our shores. This time, they have collaborated with Drips Bakery Cafe and they are here to stay permanently here in Singapore.
What is so special about Sakanoue’s Kakigori?

They use premium imported Japanese ice from a well-established, family-owned company in Japan called Kuramoto Ice. This ice company has about 100 years of history, and it is the oldest ice manufacturer in the city of Kanazawa.
The ice artisan uses a slow-freezing process to generate a pure, dense and crystal clear ice that melts slower than standard ice blocks. This process takes around 72 hours. As the water is frozen slowly to -10 degree celsius, the ice makers will start to agitate the block to elimiate micro air bubbles in the ice block, resulting in a crystal-clear block of pure ice, as shown below.

At Sakanoue, they will use their ice shaving machine to skillfully shave the ice block to form soft and fluffy snow-like shavings. Then they will shape them and add layers of ice shavings cover the sauces and toppings.
Sakanoue’s Menu at Drips Bakery Cafe
Currently, they are 6 different types of Kakigori on their menu. Some of the Kakigori contains alcohol in them. The prices range from $17.50 to $19.80 each.
- Signature Blackforest Kakigori (contains alcohol) ($19.80) (Singapore exclusive)
- Classic Strawberry Shortcake Kakigori ($17.50)
- Sakanoue Berry Cute Panda Kakigori ($18.00)
- Pistachio Chocolate Kakigori (contains alcohol) ($18.80)
- Lemon Mascarpone Kakigori ($17.50)
- Blazing Fire Cheese Kakigori ($19.80)
We managed to try 2 out of the 6 Kakigoris and I personally would recommend you to try their Blazing Fire Cheese Kakigori if you prefer something not too sweet or fruity. It was so difficult to choose because all flavours seem really appealing. But after having tried both, I would probably order their Classic Strawberry Shortcake and Cheese Kakigori.
Blazing Fire Cheese Kakigori ($19.80)

This kakigori is topped with a sliced of cheese and the staff will torched the camembert right infront of your. After flaming cheese, they will add some mixed nuts and drizzle raw honey from Kofu, Yamanashi. It’s a perfect blend of sweet and savoury dessert which is truly unique on its own.
The texture of the shaved ice is really soft and fluffy like snow. But it does melt very quickly so you have to consumed it quickly right after it is served at your table.
Signature Blackforest Kakigori (Exclusive to Singapore)

This Singapore-exclusive kakigori is inspired by Drips Bakery Cafe’s signature blackforest cake. It is topped with brandied cherries, chocolate sauce, cream cheese, tea caramel sauce and cinnamon crumble cookies. It is served with cherry brandy liqueur on the side where you can pour it over the shaved iced.
It does really taste like a slice of blackforest cake but it does not really appeal that much to me. It’s simply chocolate with cherry brandy liqeur. The taste of it isn’t quite as unique as compared to the Cheese Kakigori.
Pastries from Drips Bakery Cafe
Besides Kakigori, you can try Drip Bakery Cafe’s new cakes, tarts and pastries.
Okonomiyaki Danish ($5.00)

If you like savoury pastries like I do, you can give their Okonomiyaki Danish a try. It is a very flaky and buttery pastry which has chicken chunks, Japanese mayo, teriyaki sauce and topped with bonito flakes. I could finish this pastry on my own as it tastes pretty decent in my opinion.
(New!) Black Sesame Mochi Danish ($5.50)

This is a flaky Danish pastry which is made in house. It is filled with soft mochi and nutty black sesame paste. Black sesame lovers will dig into this.
Signature Blackforest Cake ($12.80 per slice)

If you are a fan of Signature Blackforest cake, you can try their version of blackforest cake. It’s more dense , indulgent and chocolatey. It comprises of Brandy-infused French chocolate sponge layered with vanilla cream and studded with brandied cherries.
