Among them, we think that the standout is the 2-hour Spanish tapas buffet on Mondays — just $39++ per person! It is a delightful spread of flavors that you will love, making it the perfect way to kick off your week. You can order 3 tapas at a time and each tapas can be shared between 2 to 3 pax.
We visited The Winery’s charming outlet at Chijmes, and tried a few dishes from their Spanish Tapas Buffet.
Wagyu Beef Brioche Sliders
The Wagyu Beef Brioche Sliders are a standout dish that will satisfy your meat cravings. Served medium rare, the tender beef patty is perfectly cooked, with a slight juiciness dripping down with every bite. Sandwiched between soft, buttery buns, this slider is all about the rich, flavorful meat — absolutely no veggies to distract you from the star of the show. It is one of the highlights of the menu and can be easily devoured in 3 to 5 bites. We think that it is best enjoyed with your hands for that full, indulgent experience.
Roasted Cauliflower
The Roasted Cauliflower dish brings a delightful change of textures and flavors to the table. The cauliflower, paired with a mix of broccoli, carrots, beans and a hint of something slightly sour, creates a refreshing balance. The vegetables are perfectly cooked — not too soft, yet not too firm — retaining a satisfying crunch while still being easy to chew. The light and flavourful dish is well-executed, offering a welcome contrast to the heartier options on the menu.
Patatas Bravas
The Patatas Bravas are an absolute treat, with crispy bite-sized potato strips topped with a zesty chili sauce and creamy mayo. The potatoes were cut into thin strips that still held together even after frying, allowing the crispiness to shine through in every bite. The sauces complement the dish perfectly, adding a dynamic layer of flavor. We can see why this is one of the crowds’ favourites. It is best enjoyed by either cutting down the middle of the long strips or just diving in and devouring them whole. The only downside would be that it can get a bit oily if left out for too long, but the crunch still remains.
Tacos
The tacos offer a delightful mix of flavors and textures, despite their small size. You can easily finish one in 2 to 3 bites, but these little pockets are surprisingly filling. Eating them with your hands is the best way to go, though be prepared for the filling to spill out with each bite! These Spanish tacos have a crispy shell, which holds up perfectly even after some time.
The Potato Taco has a sweet, creamy filling. It is a comforting mash-up of mashed potatoes and small potato cubes.
The Duck Confit Taco offers tender, shredded duck with just the right sweetness, cooked to perfection. The Suckling Pig Taco reminds us of a deconstructed 扣肉包 — succulent, flavorful pork in a taco form, making for a surprisingly yummy twist. The pickled topping on the Duck Confit Taco and the Suckling Pig Taco adds a nice contrast with its crunchy texture and subtle sourness. These Spanish tacos are a must-try for taco lovers.
Pardon Peppers
The Pardon Peppers are a perfect palate cleanser after the heartier dishes. Sprinkled with just the right amount of salt and spices, the flavors create a delightful contrast with the slight bitterness of the peppers. The peppers hold their shape well, while each bite is soft and easy to chew. It is a simple but satisfying dish, offering a burst of savory flavor that refreshes the taste buds for the next course.
Porcini Mushroom Croquettes
The Porcini Mushroom Croquettes are a pleasant surprise, almost like biting into a rich, creamy mushroom soup wrapped in a crispy golden shell. How they achieved this, we’re not sure. But the contrast is fascinating — crispy on the outside and incredibly soft on the inside. The filling has the velvety creaminess of mushroom soup, and it retains that distinct, earthy mushroom flavor. It is a comforting and indulgent dish that plays with textures in delicious ways.
Slow Cooked Australian Short Ribs
The Slow Cooked Australian Short Ribs are melt-in-your-mouth tender. The rich, flavorful meat practically falls apart, offering a satisfying bite with every chew. While it is not on the menu for Monday’s promotion, it is one of the restaurant’s signature and most popular dishes, and for good reason. Paired with a creamy mashed potato, the combination complements the hearty ribs perfectly and is a truly indulgent dish.
Our Verdict
Overall, The Winery offers a great dining experience with food that is tailored to local taste buds, making it a familiar yet delicious take on Spanish cuisine. The tapas dishes, while reflective of classic Spanish flavors, are carefully crafted with ingredients that suit the local palate, ensuring a satisfying meal for everyone. The service is alright, with attentive staff ensuring your water is constantly refilled.
The weekly promotions, including the buffet, are definitely worth it — affordable and filling, with no minimum pax required. The casual setting makes it a great choice for anything from a colleague hangout to a casual date night, or even a gathering with friends for a celebration. Though the food is rich and hearty (perfect for meat lovers!), be mindful of the portions — it can get heavy if you try a little of everything, so sip on some water or munch on the bell peppers to balance it out.
