[Review] The Winery Gourmet: A Romantic European Medieval Restaurant with a wine cellar

The Winery Gourmet is a European casual dining restaurant along East Coast Road which offers a vast selection of vintage wines and unique European tapas. Previously, we have visited their sister restaurant, The Winery Tapas Bar at CHIJMES where we enjoyed their $39++ Spanish Tapas buffet and food was up to expectations. Over here, the atmosphere is a little more laid-back and romantic – perfect for dinner dates.

This restaurant transports you out of Singapore and into a medieval-inspired space, with its rich, warm tones and elegant design. The seating options are a mix of cozy and sophisticated indoor spots (though limited in space), a charming outdoor area (which can get a bit warm in the afternoon), and gorgeous private rooms that require reservations and a minimum spend, depending on the room.

The wine cellar is open for guests to explore, housing an impressive collection of over 150 wine labels. For those who enjoy a tipple, whiskey tastings are available starting from $3 per dram (10ml), making it a perfect setting for both casual diners and wine connoisseurs alike.

Signature Gambas al Ajilo ($28)

The Winery Gourmet Review East Coast

The Signature Gambas al Ajilo is a delightful start to the meal, featuring wild caught tiger prawns that are slightly sweet and perfectly bouncy, while the crispy garlic adds a satisfying kick of saltiness. The blend of spices complements the prawns beautifully, enhancing the overall depth of flavor.

The sourdough bread is perfect for dipping into the premium olive oil infused with spices and dry chilli, which gives it a nice hint of heat as it melts. This dish is ideal for sharing between 2 to 4 people, making it a tasty appetiser to kick off your dining experience.

Fig with Burrata Salad (Seasonal) ($26)

The Winery Gourmet Review East Coast

The Fig with Burrata Salad (Seasonal) is a well balanced appetizer that combines creamy, melt-in-your-mouth burrata with the delightful crunch of pumpkin seeds and crispy iberico paleta crumbs. The seeds add a wonderful textural contrast, perfectly complementing the softness of the cheese. When topped with sweet, juicy figs, the dish comes together in a harmonious burst of textures and flavors, making each bite a delightful experience.

The pumpkin seed pesto has a touch of saltiness, but it does not overshadow the freshness of the dish. It is an excellent option for sharing especially for cheese lovers, offering a creamy start to the meal.

36-Hour Lamb Neck ($48)

The Winery Gourmet Review East Coast

The 36-Hour Lamb Neck is a tender and flavorful dish, offering The Gourmet Winery’s unique take. The lamb is cooked to perfection — just the right amount of tenderness without losing its structure. The black garlic puree adds a deeper, more fragrant umami note, with a hint of sweetness that elevates the dish, although it can slightly overpower the lamb’s natural flavor at times.

The leek, soft and subtly sweet, provides a refreshing palate cleanser between bites, while the crispy exterior of the lamb offers a delightful contrast in texture. The addition of Avrugar caviar is a luxurious touch, enhancing the overall flavor profile and adding a hint of brininess.

A beautifully executed dish that is both rich and balanced, though the black garlic puree might be a bit dominant for some.

24-Hour Slow Cooked Short Ribs ($48)

The Winery Gourmet Review East Coast

The 24-Hour Slow Cooked Short Ribs are incredibly tender, with the beef easily breaking apart with the slightest cut. The beef jus, with its sticky texture, adds depth and richness, while the thick, savoury onion jam intensifies the flavor even further. The Celeriac puree, soft and creamy, brings in delicate tints of sweetness that perfectly balance the dish. The bone marrow melts effortlessly in your mouth, adding a luxurious finish to each bite.

Everything comes together seamlessly, creating a melt-in-your-mouth experience that is both satisfying and indulgent. The crispy sago chips, sprinkled with an interesting powder, offer a unique flavor. All in all, this dish offers a well-balanced combination of textures and flavors that makes for an enjoyable meal.
