Lilytopia: Experience Venetian Summer against a beautiful backdrop of Lilies

This month, they have launched a new Venice-themed floral display called Lilytopia. It features over 10,000 lilies across more than 50 varieties of lilies set against the enchanting backdrop of Venice, Italy’s renowned floating City.

This largest-ever lily showcase at Gardens by the Bay features more than 50 varieties of lilies in various forms and vivid colours, from double-petal roselilies that resemble roses, to striking varieties in bright yellows and fiery oranges.

There are also recreations of Venice’s famous landmarks, including the city’s renowned waterways flanked by picturesque Italian houses and artisan shops. It literally takes you to the charming city itself.

This floral display is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Singapore. Lilytopia marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Italy. Do you know that lily is the national flower of Italy?

A Bed of Over 10,000 Lilies

Besides the traditional single-petal varieties (which most people are familiar with), there are double-petal varieties too.

More than 20 varieties lilies on display this year were cultivated in-house by Gardens by the Bay’s horticulturists. The is the first time that the lilies were mass cultivated in Gardens by the Bay from bulbs. In doing so, horticulturists had to be sensitive to the temperature of the growing environment, as too high temperatures may trigger the lilies to bloom earlier than needed.

The lily palette is complemented by a tapestry of other colourful blooms, including sweeping blankets of hydrangeas, calla lilies, and cannas.

Recreations of popular Landmarks in Italy

Waterways

This is Gardens by the Bay’s artistic interpretation of Venice’s famous canals flows through the display, created using blue-hued hydrangeas. You can spot a traditional gondol which is Venice’s distinctive mode of transportation.

St Mark’s Square

There’s also a recreation of the famed Piazza San Marco features a towering bell tower alongside prominent arches adorned with intricate masks celebrating the Carnevale di Venezia, Venice’s world-renowned festival famous for its masks and costumes.

Limoncello corner

There’s a charming limoncello stall in iconic blue and white hues showcases Italy’s beloved citrus liqueur. This beloved drink celebrates the famed lemons Sfusato Amalfitano which are grown on steep terraces since the 15th century.

Nonna’s kitchen

Step into the heart of Italian family life with this recreation of a typical Italian grandmother’s kitchen equipped with copper pots, pans, and a traditional wood-fire oven.

My Verdict

These days, I have always been looking forward to Flower Dome’s new floral display as the floral arrangement and display sets are done up very well. Every angle is a photo-worthy and it is worth dropping by just to take a whiff of the natural scent of flowers. I also love the fact that most of the floral displays is tied to a destination and it does felt like you are being transported to another part of the world. It is worth checking it out.
