I have been to a fair number of afternoon tea places in Singapore. Every time I am back here at Conrad Singapore Marina Bay, I convinced that they are one of the best afternoon tea places in Singapore. The prices for the afternoon tea is reasonable too.
This time round, they are launching a new afternoon tea menu called La Vanilla Afternoon Tea. This is probably Singapore’s first Vanilla-themed afternoon tea menu featuring locally-grown vanilla beans.
Welcome Drinks
The afternoon tea sets here always start with a welcome drink. In addition to that, you can choose between TWG tea or Bacha Coffee. And the best part is that the tea and coffee is unlimited. That means that you can ask for refills or a change of coffee and tea. You get to enjoy not one but three different beverages in one seating. Not every hotel afternoon tea spots offer unlimited drinks.
They carry a wider selection of TWG teas than Bacha coffees. You can choose from the classic tea, green tea, fruit infusions, floral tea, herbal infusions or Chinese tea range.
The welcome drink is Madagascar Vanilla. It’s a non-alcoholic bubbly spritz with the flavours of vanilla with crisp apple. It is made with Elderflower cordial, Madagascar vanilla, and zero-proof prosecco. I enjoyed this pleasant fruity drink.
Next comes the afternoon tea set.
La Vanilla Afternoon Tea Menu (Set for 2)
We ordered the afternoon tea set for 2 pax. Hence, there are 2 servings of each, as shown in the photo above. There are a total of 4 savouries, 4 sweets and 2 scones.
Savoury Menu
The savouries were mostly a hit. A couple of the treats are infused with vanilla.
Parisian Ham and Comté Sandwich: Layered Parisian ham and aged Comté, finished with a touch of vanilla butter
Tempura Mushroom: Locally farmed mushrooms with a shoyu-vanilla dip
Vanilla Brioche: Truffle-infused egg mayonnaise on a soft vanilla brioche
Seared Scallop: Topped with mango-jalapeño salsa and a crustacean-infused vanilla essence
The Sweets
We weren’t disappointed with the desserts. They were not overly sweet but well-balanced in all aspect in terms of flavours and textures. The highlight was the Vanilla Orchard and the Vanilla Pod. The Vanilla Pod was cleverly executed and it truly excited the taste buds with the textural ingredients used.
Vanilla Peach Tart: White peach compote, ruby peach, sable base, Madagascar vanilla ganache
Vanilla Orchard: Banana compote, vanilla hazelnut mousse, and coconut sable
Matcha Vanilla Sonata: Matcha sponge with raspberry gel and vanilla mousse
The Vanilla Pod: Tahiti vanilla whip, vanilla cream, caramel, and almond praline crunch
Homemade Scones
Each person will get 2 scones – Homemade Vanilla Plain Scone and Homemade Raisin Scone. I personally think that the scones tasted pretty average but the homemade wild strawberry jam and clotted cream were well made.
Our Verdict
I can safely that this afternoon tea spot could easily emerged as the top with their offerings and consistency in dishing out an afternoon set which not only tastes great but look really appealing too.
