L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele: This 150-year-old Neapolitan pizza chain opened their first Asian outpost in Singapore

L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, the world-renowned Neapolitan pizzeria, debuted in the heart of Singapore in 2024 as the first Asia Pacific location. According to the Michelin Guide, it is known as one of the best pizzerias in Naples.

The restaurant’s authentic Neapolitan pizza is made using the same centuries-old recipe, techniques, and Italian imported ingredients as its origin restaurant in Naples, established in 1870.

They are best known for its pizza—thin, crispy dough topped with the finest ingredients and cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven. All the pizzas are made to order and come in one size only – 15 inches (37cm).

The restaurant also offers a range of fresh pastas and other classic Italian dishes like risotto and fritti. With a focus on using premium ingredients, the flavors are bold and satisfying, transporting you straight to Italy with every bite. If you’re looking for quality pizzas and pastas, this is the place to be.

Getting There

L’antica Pizzeria da Michele is located on the ground floor of Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre. It is about a five-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station.

Interior

Da Michele’s interior is a mix of modern and cozy—wooden finishes, hanging plants, and an open kitchen that lets you watch the chefs at work. It’s stylish yet approachable, with a relaxed vibe that makes you feel right at home.

The dim lighting and sleek design give it a touch of elegance, making it an ideal spot for everything from casual meals with friends to romantic dinners for two. The ambience of this 70-seater restaurant strikes the perfect balance between comfort and sophistication.

Dishes we’ve tried

Their menu offers starters, pizzas (15 inches), pasta, fried dishes, salads, rissotto and desserts. The pizzas start from $22. There are 17 types of pizzas to choose from. There’s also a half-and-half pizza called the Marita which comprises of half marinara and half margherita.

Starters : Zuppa di Cozze di Tropea ($29)

This starter is a delightful combination of fresh mussels, cherry tomatoes, white wine, and ‘nduja sauce, served with focaccia. The mussels are fresh and tender, with a slight kick from the ‘nduja sauce. The focaccia, which resembles pizza dough, is soft yet slightly crispy at the edges, soaking up the delicious sauce. The spice level is just right, giving it a little extra heat without overpowering the dish. This is a great appetizer for sharing as there are really quite a lot of mussels.

Pastas : Linguine alle Vongole ($35)

The linguine is perfectly cooked as it was firm yet tender. Every slurp of the linguine reveals how beautifully the pasta has absorbed the white wine sauce, with each bite delivering a burst of flavor. It’s clear that the pasta has been cooked to perfection, soaking up all the rich, savory notes from the sauce, making each mouthful a satisfying experience. While the clams are a bit on the smaller side, they’re plentiful and bring a lovely briny flavor that pairs beautifully with the pasta. It’s a simple dish, but the quality of the ingredients makes it stand out. If there was a little more meat on the clams, I think this dish would have been more satisfying.

Pizza : Truffle Porcini Pizza ($40)

The pizza here is exceptional—thin and crispy with a slight chewiness at the edges. The pizza was so big, it could barely fit in the plate! The pizza is wood-fired, and while a couple of bites have a slight burnt taste from the oven, it doesn’t detract from the overall flavor.

The truffle pate is generously spread, adding a rich flavor that pairs perfectly with the creamy Fior di Latte and earthy porcini mushrooms. The mushroom was also very soft, adding a delightful depth of flavor with each bite. The truffle, though rich, is well-balanced and doesn’t overpower the other ingredients. It’s indulgent without being too much, making it a must-try for truffle lovers. You can tell the cheese is of exceptional quality, as it melts beautifully, creating that perfect gooey, indulgent texture that pulls you in with every slice.

The price for their Truffle Porcini Pizza is certainly on the higher end. If you are dining as a group, the costs can be split among a few people. If you are dining alone or as a couple, it might be rather costly.

Dessert : Millefoglie dello Chef ($16)

To end on a sweet note, this dessert is a deconstructed millefoglie with white chocolate, hazelnut crumble, and amarena cherry. The dish has the perfect amount of sweetness, with crunchy hazelnuts adding texture to the creamy white chocolate. The layers of millefoglie add a satisfying crispness, while the cherries bring a bit of tartness to balance out the richness of the chocolate. While the portion is on the smaller side, it’s a delightful and satisfying way to finish the meal.

Drinks

They offer both alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks. You can order cocktails, wines, beers, Italian sodas and coffee and tea. What is unique is probably their Italian sodas and mocktails concoctions. You can also order their freeflow sparkling or stilled water at $2 per person.

For winer lovers, you can order a glass or two from their extensive wine list which covers from natural wine to exceptional wines from Tuscany, Italy.

Verdict – Would We Visit Again?

Absolutely! Everything I tried exceeded my expectations, from the rich flavors of the pizza to the light and fresh pasta. I’d definitely return to try more dishes—especially other pizzas and pastas which sounded interesting as well.

For anyone who enjoys truffle, the Truffle Porcini pizza is a must-try. The portion sizes are generous, and the flavors are spot-on.  The high quality of the food, combined with the stylish yet welcoming atmosphere, makes it a great spot for a night out. While it might be on the pricier side, the food’s quality makes it worth the splurge.
