We just got back from a 2-day 1-night short getaway at The Westin Nirup Island Resort & Spa located on Nirup Island, Batam. Here’s what you need to know if you are planning to make a trip there.
Take the direct ferry from Singapore to Nirup Island
Travelling straight to Nirup island is now a breeze because Horizon Fast Ferry offers direct ferry services from Singapore. The ferry departs from Harbourfront Centre and docked at ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island. A round trip ticket costs around SGD76 per pax. Prices maybe subjected to changes so do check the website for the most up-to-date prices.
Previously, you have to travel to Batam Centre and take another ferry from there to Nirup Island. From 18 October 2025 onwards, you are able to take a ferry which brings you directly from Singapore to Nirup Island and back to Singapore. However, this direct ferry service is only available at certain timings from Fridays to Sundays only.
Depart from Harbourfront Centre
We took the 1pm ferry ride from Harbourfront Centre via Horizon Fast Ferry to Nirup Island. The whole process was fuss-free as there is hardly anyone taking the ferry and it was quite empty. The resort is still very new and not many people know about Nirup Island.
The whole ferry ride took about 45 minutes. The ferry left Singapore at 1.05pm and we reached the ferry terminal at Nirup Island around 1.50pm.
Arrival at ONE°15 Marina Nirup Island
Once you go onboard, remember to complete the All Indonesia arrival card online. Do note that Nirup Island, located in the Riau Islands Province, is part of Batam and you will need to bring your passport along to clear immigrations at the Island. You can also purchase Visa at the immigration counter of the island if required.
Once you have completed the e-arrival card, a QR code will be generated and sent to your email. You will need to check the QR code to the immigration officer with your passport at the immigration counter. Once again, there is hardly anyone at the immigration counter and we clear immigrations pretty quickly.
There will be a bag scan and once you walk out, there will be a staff from the resort who will be there to assist you to get to the lobby via a buggy. It will take you less than 5-minutes to reach the lobby.
By the time we reached that, it was around 1pm (Indonesia time) due to the time difference. The check-in timing is 3pm. Our rooms were not ready yet so we can only hang around at the lobby or head out for lunch.
About the resort
The Westin Nirup Island Resort & Spa is luxury sustainable resort that is also wellness-focused. It was officially opened on 3 June 2025. The resort offers a total of 94 rooms and 52 private villas. It is still a relatively new resort and some of their villas have not been fully constructed yet. There will also be a kid’s club too.
The Lobby
The whole resort is well-designed. Once you enter the reception area, you get to enjoy a paranomic view of the sea with Singapore’s city skyline in the backdrop. Yes, you can literally see Singapore from here!
Lunch at Salt Simply Seafood
We took a short buggy ride to Salt Simply Seafood, which is one of the 4 on-site restaurants at the resort. It is an ocean-to-table restaurant which offers grilled seafood and other mains. The restaurant is actually located close to the beach, near the sea sports centre.
There’s a small pool at the restaurant for guests to use.
We did not have time to check out the sea sports centre so we are not sure what are the activities you can do there. But additional fee is required for the sea sports activities. We also didn’t have time to check out the beach as well but the water seems relatively clear and blue to us. The beach isn’t as pristine as the fine sandy beaches in other renowned islands but it is still a peaceful spot to just chill and enjoy the sea breeze.
Here’s the menu offered at the restaurant. We ordered some grilled prawns and lobster which comes with salad and rice as a side. It was a pretty decent meal.
Heavenly Spa by Westin™
After lunch, we headed for a massage at the Heavenly Spa by Westin™. Ideally, you shouldn’t have a massage right after lunch but we didn’t expect to have a late lunch.
The spa is located right next to the 24-hour gym. There are 7 treatment rooms in total. We tried their Traditional ‘Urut Massage’ massage (60-minutes) for IDR 1,008,000++ and it was a really good and relaxing oil massage. There’s also a small sauna room at the spa for guests to use.
You are literally surrounded by the seaviews at this resort. You can look out to the sea everywhere you go.
Room Check-in
After a relaxing massage, it was time to check into our rooms. We stayed one night at the Deluxe Room, located on the third floor of the block. There are 3 blocks in total – block A, B and C. The block we stayed in is only 3-storeys high. Because it is afterall a sustainable resort, they do not have lifts. We only spotted one lift at the main block where the lobby is located.
I personally find that the resort layout is well-designed because it is quite easy to get around. You will not get lost here because of the easy layout which makes it really easy for anyone to navigate around. The all-day restaurant (Island Kitchen), meeting rooms, and lobby are located at the main block. The gym, swimming pool and spa are located close to each other.
Deluxe Room with King Bed
The Deluxe Room is rather spacious. It is 50 sqm big and has a balcony that faces the sea. That means we can also watch the sunrise and sunset from our rooms.
Once you enter the room, if you turn to the right, it is the toilet with a walk-in closet space. The toilet bowl is equiped with a bidet. There’s also a sink beside it.
On the left side of the doorway is the bathroom and shower area. There is no bathtub. The premium towels provided felt really soft. You can find the hairdryer below the sink area.
The highlight for me was the premium bedding. The bed was super soft and once you lie you in, you can’t get up. We had a hard time getting out of bed. It felt like we were sleeping on clouds. The comfy weighted blanket didn’t help either. It just makes me want to fall into a deep sleep which I did. I feel asleep immediately after lying on the bed.
There’s a sofa bed near the bed and another sofa at the balcony. You could literally laze in the sofa to read or do some work there. All the furniture and amenities are still brand new and very clean.
There are 3-pin socket points right about the bedside table with USB ports. That means you don’t have to bring a travel adapter. You can travel light since everything is provided for.
At the mini bar area, you can find a coffee machine as well as the kettle. You can drink the bottled water from the glass bottles which they often replenish it. In the evening, their staff would come into the room to make your bed and replenish the bottled water.
24-hour Gym
Their state-of-the-art gym overlooks the sea and the whole gym looks really beautiful with the sunlight streaming in. There’s also an outdoor studio where fitness classes are conducted there. Imagine doing sunrise yoga there with the sea breeze carassing your face.
The gym is well-equipped with the latest gym equippment and machines. There’s even a massage gun station for guests to use.
Outdoor Pool
After exercising, you can head to the pool for a dip. The pool is not that big or deep but it is nice to just have dip in it especially during sunset hours. You can watch the sunset here too!
Beside the pool is the pool bar and lounge called Constellate. You can order finger food, mains and drinks here. I would say food was relatively okay. The food did took quite a while to be served.
Hotel Breakast
Breakfast is included in our stay and it is served at Island Kitchen. The spread is quite limited but food is relatively decent.
They serve the usual breakfast staples like juices, toasts, pastries, cereal, salad and hot food like noodles, rice and more. The breakfast hours is from 7am to 11am.
Checking-out
The check-out time is 12pm. Since we depart on a Monday, there aren’t any ferries going from Nirup Island to Singapore. So we had to take the ferry from Nirup Island to Batam Centre via a speed boat. I would say it is not the most comfortable boat ride as the ride was quite bumpy and it was so warm inside the boat. It is a 45-minute boat ride to Batam Centre. We did not have to clear any immigrations since the island is within Batam.
From Batam centre, we had to take another 45-minute ferry back to Singapore’s Harbourfront Centre. The journey is definitely longer and it is quite a hassle especially when the ferry back to Singapore is usually quite packed on weekends or Public Holiday.
Our Verdict
Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at the resort. Heading there via the direct ferry was a breeze. We wished we had stayed one more night to explore the beaches and try out some sea sports. I would say a 3-day 2-night stay would have been perfect. Service maybe slow at times but the staff there are very polite and friendly.
Other things to take note of
Remember to bring insect repellent with you. I had quite a few mosquite bites on my legs but my partner had none. It can rain on the island but they do provide umbrellas at the resort and it is mostly sheltered unless you are at the beach or outdoor pool. When it rains, it can get very windy at the island.
They have hosted their first wedding there and it looked like a really beautiful spot to hold your wedding there. They have meeting rooms, ballroom and this circular platform (where you can conduct your wedding solemnization) which leads out to the sea.
