You would have probably heard about this renowned hotel near Orchard Road called Artyzen Singapore. It is one of the hotels featured under the MICHELIN Guide Hotels. I personally have stayed there before and the staycation was a pleasant one. This time I am heading back to the hotel again but for a different reason – to check out the new Korean confinement centre called DeRAMA which is housed on the 12th floor of the hotel. It provided round-the-clock support for mothers during the confinement period.
No, I am not doing my confinement right now but I am just checking out this new facility as a guests. I probably wouldn’t be able to churn out a comprehensive review (since I had not entered motherhood yet) but here’s my experience staying at DeRAMA for a night.
Checking-in DeRAMA

Before checking-in, their staff actually dropped me a WhatsApp message to find out what time I will be reaching. Communication over WhatsApp was effective and replies were prompt. Once I reached the lobby, their staff ushered me straight to the 12th storey to check-in.
DeRAMA Singapore

This is DeRAMA;s first international expansion outside of Korea. DeRAMA employs registered and enrolled nurses to care for both mothers and newborns. This ensures that mothers will receive expert-level care and professional support throughout their stay.
Currently, DeRAMA occupies the 12th floor of the hotel. There are a total of 8 suites, 2 treatment rooms and 1 nursery room. Dads are welcome to stay and share the experience with the mum. But their meals are chargeable separately. Dads can enjoy the hotel’s full range of amenities and facilities.
There are 2 types of suites – standard suite and the garden suite. A 2-week stay will start from $35,000 at their standard suite. A 2-week stay at the garden suite will costs $50,000.
Popular among Korean Celebrities

This confinement centre is trusted by Korean couples including Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min-jung, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, Taeyang (BigBang) and Min Hyo-rin, Choi Tae-joon and Park Shin Hye, and other celebrity couples.

Garden Suite

The suite is very spacious and it has a garden balcony attached to it. One unique thing about the rooms at Artyzen hotels is their high ceiling. This particular room is equipped with a ceiling fan so guests can ventilate the room and allow natural air to flow in.

As a guest, you will also get to enjoy all the basic room amenities offered by Artyzen Singapore.
Your Welcome Gift

Upon checking into your room, you will also be given some babycare products as well as useful skincare products for mothers. Mothers will also receive Atopalm shampoo and conditioner, specially formulated for postnatal scalp and hair care.
Complimentary Laundry service

Everything is well-taken care of the moment you step into DeRAMA confinement centre. Besides your meals, everything else is provided for. This include laundry service for both mother and baby.
Bathroom equipped with Korean-imported Sitz Bath

One added facility to the confinement suites is probably the addition of the sitz bath, a warm water bath that helps to relieve discomfort in your perineal region. It held to reduce soreness from childbirth, tears, or episiotomies. And you can use it a few times in a day and as any times as you need.

There’s also a portable speaker placed in the bathroom for you to use it if you need to play some music while soaking in the bath.

There’s a separate toilet area located at the other side of the room.

Balcony

The garden suite comes with this huge balcony that is shared between two adjacent suites. You can do some sun bathing here and take in some fresh air during your confinement stay here.

There are a few comfy seating options within the room and at the balcony area.

The Nursery

DeRAMA Singapore has onboarded Expert Assistants who are credentialled Korean Registered Nurses (RNs), which sets it apart from centres that rely on confinement nannies. These nurses will tend to the babies at the 24-hr nursery room.

Confinement Meals

Every meal at DeRAMA Singapore is planned by Korean nutritionists, and prepared by Artyzen chefs. The menus draw from Korean, Western, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) philosophies, combining modern nutritional science with time-tested postpartum principles. Such confinement meal promotes recovery, enhances milk production, and nourishes the body holistically.
There are 3 meals served a day with 2 snacks. Breakfast is served at 7 am while lunch is at 12pm. There’ a snacktime at 3pm and this is followed by dinner at 6pm and another snack time at 8pm. We tried some of the meals and here are our thoughts.
3pm Snack Time

They served one sercing of watermelon, cranberry pastries with warm milk. It was a pleasant decent snack to have.
The staff brought the food into the room and served right at the table placed closed to the sofa. You can also get them to place the food on the tray stand outside the room if you do not wish for them to enter the suite. However, the food tray is quite heavy as they use ceramic plates so you have to carry the tray of food into the room by yourself if you want them to leave it outside.
6pm Dinner time

Three hours later, dinner was served. The portion above was for 2 pax. You can order meals for the Dad too if he plans to stay in with you. For dinner, we had this huge bowl of seaweed soup, one bowl of long beans, one mozarella cheese with tomatoes and a slab of steak with mashed potato. They also serve some white kimchi at the side. You have a mixed of both Asian and western dishes.
I am not too sure if this is the right portion of food for mothers going through postnatal care but the portion is alot for one pax. It’s like having a 4-course meal where portion of each course is quite generous. Perhaps it is great for those mothers with a big appetite.
Overall, the food was decent but I did not quite understand how the Asian-style seaweed soup would pair well with western-style steaks. The pairing of the dishes does seems abit off.

On the first night, you will be given a cake with some champagne.

8pm Snack Time

After 2 hours, they brought in another tray of snacks. We were pretty full from dinner but we couldn’t stay no to some nuts and tea.
We each had a bowl of hazelnuts, chocolate croissant and some TWG rea. Having nuts as a before bedtime snack seems okay but a chocolate croissant before bed maybe a little heavy.

7 am Breakfast

Breakfast came at 7 am sharp so that means you have to be awake by 6am to wash up and prep yourself for the day. It was another hearty breakfast dish comprising of toasts, eggs, potatoes and bacon. It comes with a bowl of broccoli, yoghurt and fruits. They serve warm milk for breakfast too. Once again the portion was huge. After finishing the breakfast plate, we did not have room for another bowl of broccoli.
I guess mothers need more nutritious food during this recovery period especially when they are breastfeeding. It’s good to know that they are generous with the portions. I guess if the portion is too big for you, it can always be adjusted by letting them know in advance.
Massage Therapies

At DeRAMA, they offer a comprehensive spa and massage programme that includes prenatal massage, full-body postnatal massage therapies, as well as luxurious hair shampoo and treatment service. The therapists here are trained by Korean professionals. DeRAMA has designed an intensive massage program to optimize this Golden Time, targeting muscle realignment, tissue recovery, and figure correction to restore the body’s natural balance.
As part of the whole confinement experience, I also get to try their massage therapy for mothers. It is a 1.5 to 2-hour long session comprising of massage, stone massage and RF treatement. The therapists assigned to me was experienced and she was able to point out what are some of the body issues (e.g muslce tension, bloatedness) I was facing with.
They are provide hair shampoo services where you can get the staff to wash and shampoo your hair while you are seated comfortably in the armchair.
My Verdict

Overall, the stay at DeRAMA was a comfortable one. The hotel itself provides a rather conducive environment for postpartum care. Service was good and very prompt. We called for additional bottled water and their staff serve it right to our doorstep within minutes. Massage therapists were experienced and the treatment itself was really comprehensive. I personally felt that the food can be more well-balanced.
Do note that I only stayed at this confinement centre for one night so my review might not be as comprehensive.
