A French Icon Makes Its Asian Debut in Singapore
Since its founding in Paris in 2008, Mama Shelter has built a cult following across Europe and beyond. They are known for its irreverent design, communal energy, and the kind of warmth that turns a hotel stay into a genuine experience.
Founded by hotelier Serge Trigano (one of the early visionaries behind Club Med) and his sons Jérémie and Benjamin, the brand now spans roughly 19 properties worldwide.
Location
Mama Shelter Singapore is the very first Mama Shelter hotel in Asia. Tucked on Killiney Road — a quieter street just off Orchard Road. It is located just a 10-minute walk from Somerset MRT station, near the Orchard Road Shopping belt. The location, needless to say, is excellent and highly accessible.
This hotel soft-launched in September 2025. In March 2026, with the completion of its much-anticipated rooftop space, Mama Sky Pool, the hotel is now fully open.
We stayed one night at this stylish lifestyle boutique hotel in May 2026 and here is everything you need to know before you visit.
Hotel Lobby
You will check in at the hotel reception first. The check-in process was relatively quick and simple. The staff will hand you the room keycard and you can make your way up.
Mama Shelter Merchandise
Next to the reception counter is a shelf filled with their own hotel merchandise which guests can purchase. There’s also a curated range of Singapore-exclusive merchandise which includes signature interior fragrances, branded bedding, plush toys, and colourful masks. I also need to highlight that the hotel fragrance smells pretty pleasant.
A 7-storey hotel
There are 7 floors in total and the rooms are located on floors 2,3,4,5 and 6. Their in-house restaurant and bar is located on the first floor. There is also a rooftop bar and pool on the 7th floor. Do note that there are no gym or spa at this boutique hotel.
Mama’s Playful DNA is reflected in the hotel interior
Mama Shelter Singapore was designed by Dion & Arles, the creative studio behind many of the brand’s global properties. There’s some Peranakan influence in the interior. The hotel carpets draw inspiration from traditional wedding dresses, colourful tiles grace the rooftop and surround the pizza oven, and bamboo-shaped furniture legs and turned-wood details add depth to every space.
The most striking design element is the monumental ceiling mural by Parisian street artist Beniloys, a long-time Mama collaborator. He spent three months on-site hand-painting wall and ceiling murals at the lift lobbies. The paintings are strikingly and it gives character to the hotel.
You can smell the hotel signature scent as you walk down the hotel corridor.
The Rooms
Mama Shelter Singapore offers 115 guest rooms across three categories (MAMA room, MAMA Bunk and MAMA Terrace). Each room is thoughtfully designed to balance comfort and design. Notably, nearly half of all rooms feature private terraces. Rooms start from SGD $240 per night (subject to GST and service charge).
MAMA Bunk
MAMA Terrace
We stayed in MAMA room for a night and it does not come with a private terrace. It faces the row of shophouses right opposite the front of the hotel. The room has a split bathroom concept where the shower cubicle is separated from the toilet bowl. The sink and vanity area is right outside the bathroom. The coffee and tea amenities are close to the sink area.
There’s also a water dispenser placed next to the sink. You will need to fill the water tank of the dispenser before it could dispense filtered water.
Every room features plush 5-star bedding with 100% satin cotton sheets, soundproofed interiors, and premium amenities — including a Dyson hairdryer.
Bathrooms are stocked with organic, cruelty-free toiletries by Ink & Water, and fitted with TOTO smart toilets for a touch-free experience.
They provide a 2-in-1 hair and body gel as well as hair conditioner in the shower cubicle.
Our room has a double bed with comfortable beddings. I must say although the room looks really small, it is designed in such a way that doesn’t feel too cram at all.
The room interior looks quirky with the mask placed over the lamp. If it is somewhat too loud for you, you can actually remove the mask from the bedside lamp.
The safe below at the bedside table. I noticed that it is quite common for safe boxes to be installed right under the bedside table.
The rooms have USB-C port and 3-pin electrical points. Newer hotels in Singapore have provide the sockets with USB-C ports so we didn’t have to bring our travel adapters along with us.
Large in-room screens offer a curated selection of complimentary films (older movies) for a relaxed night in.
Mama Sky Pool
The rooftop is open to both hotel guests and the public. The rooftop bar serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu of bar bites, signature cocktails, and a curated spirits selection. It is not just any pool bar but a really gorgeous-looking one.
Once evening arrives, the pool deck transforms: live entertainment is planned to bring the rooftop alive after hours, offering an alfresco alternative to the energy building in the restaurant below.
The rooftop pool is 1.2 metres deep. It is a small pool but good enough for anyone to take a nice cool dip especially under Singapore’s hot weather.
On the other side of the rooftop area is another smaller pool which is not as deep. It is great for young kids.
Swimming towels and fruit-infused water are provided for guests.
Mama Restaurant: All-Day Dining restaurant
Guests get to enjoy 20% discount when they dine at MAMA restaurant or the rooftop bar. The evenings at Mama Restaurant are designed around vibe dining. After a certain timing, the whole space becomes a party house. There will be live entertainment and DJs. There are also themed nights that keep the energy going well past dinner service. It is quite a vibe in the evening and the restaurant can be pretty packed too.
Hotel Breakfast
This is also where you would enjoy your hotel breakfast. They will hand you a breakfast menu where you select one main and a drink. The breakfast mains include acai bowl, Big Breakfast and a few Asian options like noodles.
If you’re super hungry, you can get their Big Breakfast set which comprises of a croissant, eggs, sausage and hashbrown. It is quite a hearty breakfast and food was generally pretty good.
Mama’s Happy Meal
A visit to Mama restaurant isn’t complete without trying the Mama’s Happy Meal. It is a cheeky, adult reimagining of a childhood classic. Currently, it is priced at a special half-price promotional offer of SGD $39.90 for 2 pax (usual price $79.90). Each set includes two burgers, free-flow fries, two drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and a small tin of caviar.
As for the burgers, you choose the Beef Burger, Fish Burger or Mushroom Burger (vegetarian). Do note that the burgers are on the smaller side. It is slightly bigger than a slider. Complement your meal with a glass of Prosecco, an Espresso Martini, draft beer, gin and tonic, or a non-alcoholic option.
Our Verdict
Overall, it is a really comfortable stay and we recommend this hotel to couples and solo travellers. The vibe and atmosphere is certainly more suited for adults. Location is a huge plus point. The rooms is relatively new and clean. The only qualm I have is their toiletries as they do not provide a dedicated shampoo and bath gel.
