Hosting a mini buffet in Singapore with Rasel Catering

Hosting a gathering, events or parties in Singapore can be a stress-free experience with food catering companies like Rasel Catering Singapore that provide catering services for small to large-scale events. They also provided mini buffets suitable for inimate home gatherings or celebrations. Recently, we had the opportunity to try their mini buffet offering, and here’s a comprehensive review of our experience.

About Rasel Catering

Rasel Catering is a well-established premium halal-certified caterer in Singapore which is known for their reliable service and menus that comprises of both local delicacies and international dishes. They do provide vegetarian options too.

Mini Buffet by Rasel Catering

Their mini buffet package is priced at $28.80 per pax (S$31.39 per pax inclusive of GST) and is perfect for 10 pax. For this package, we were able to select 10 different dishes from their extensive menu, which includes both local delights and Western-style dishes. This provides a great variety for guests to enjoy.

Delivery was prompt, and the food was packed neatly in trays. Most importantly, there was no spillage during the delivery process, as everything was securely packed. Soup- or gravy-based dishes were double-sealed with cling wrap to prevent leakage. The food was still hot upon arrival.

What is included in the mini buffet?

Everything is provided for the buffet, so you only need a table and space to host your guests. Disposable ladles and tongs are included, along with a stack of disposable plates, forks, and spoons. Serviettes are also provided.

Self-Heating Trays

To ensure that the food remains hot when your guests arrive, self-heating trays with heating agent pads are provided. It took us around 10 to 15 minutes to heat up all the food.

Simply pour some water onto the heating agent pads and place the food trays over them. The steam released will heat up the food—it’s that easy.

What we ordered

There’s quite a variety of dishes to choose from the menu. We chose 10 different dishes from the given menu. The food generally met our expectations for buffet catering. Each dish was well-presented and garnished in a way that made it look appetising.

Some of the crowd favourites among our guests were the Beef Redang, Penne Pasta Arrabbiata, Traditional Shepherd’s Pie and Fudgy Walnut Brownie.

Cardini Caesar Salad with Parmesan Cheese

The condiments for the salad like the salad sauce, parmesan cheese and croutons are packed separately. So your guests can add as much sauce, croutons or parmesan cheese as they want.

Sautéed Garlic Butter Prawns

The garlicky prawns, sitting on a bed of shredded vegetables, are flavourful and succulent.

Aromatic Beef Rendang

The beef was tender and the rendang gravy was not too overwhelming rich. This might pair better with their rice-based dishes.

Roasted Root Vegetables

This comprises of a medley of potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts and tomatoes. The potatoes were soft and well-cooked through.

Italian Chicken Parmigiana

Chicken Parmigiana were covered with a layer of cream-based sauce and garnished with slices of lemon. The chicken skin was still slightly crisp when served.

Nyonya Tempura Style Fillet

This flavourful Peranakan-inspired fish-based dish is quite well-executed. The fillet was drenched in a dark savory, sweet, and tangy gravy. It pairs well with some rice.

Traditional Shepherd’s Pie with Country-Style Beef

Underneath the layer of cooked potatoes is a layer of aromatic grounded beef. This is quite a comforting dish to have especially during occasions like Christmas.

Penne Pasta Arrabbiata

Their Penne Pasta Arrabbiata wasn’t just pasta. It is garnished with olives, mushrooms and bell peppers. It’s quite tasty on its own.

Fudgey Walnut Brownie

This brownie was a crowd favourite and it cleared out pretty quickly during the gathering. I actually wish that they provide a few more slices because some of the guests wanted a couple more bites of it.

Deluxe Fresh Fruit Platter

I am glad that they provided fruits as one of their options in their mini buffet menu. This catered to guests who are looking for a healthier post-meal treat.

Our Verdict

We have personally reviewed and tried many catered mini buffets in Singapore. For Rasel, what truly stood out was the consistent food quality, balanced flavours and thoughtful presentation. The quality across all dishes was consistent, and the flavours suited our local palate well. The food was not overly oily, salty, or rich, and each dish was thoughtfully presented.

The portions were just right for 10 pax—not excessive, yet sufficient—which helps to minimise food wastage. Overall, it was a hassle-free catering experience with Rasel.
