Origin Grill & Bar
Shangri-La Singapore has definitely up its game with its new dining concept called Origin Grill & Bar. It was such a swanky place to chill, have a drink and dine. Personally, I am super impressed with the locally-inspired drinks they offered at the bar. I’m pretty sure that I would be back for more cocktails at Origin Bar.
Dining Concept
Origin Grill & Bar was inspired by the origin of flavours, travel adventures and Singapore’s history of trade and colonial charm. The interior was more colonial and European-inspired than local. But their drinks menu is inspired by the various districts in Singapore. I guess there were going more for the modern and chic outlook.
Origin Bar
The moment I stepped in, I felt as if I was visiting a different time zone. Have I stepped into this time machine that brought me back to the 1960’s?
The New York’s downtime vibe is going strong here. With those blues going behind the background, I thought I was at a secret bar close to a subway in New York. Classy is the right word to embody all of these.
I’m not a ‘bar-type of person’, but this place swept me off my feet.
Drinks
The five well-known districts in Singapore were the inspiration behind the drinks at the bar. They are Orchard, Chinatown, Little India, Boat Quay and Marina Bay. Kudos to their talented bar manager, Adam Bursik, who had done a great job in concocting the various drinks using ingredients carefully sourced from South East Asia. This region is well-known for its spice trade, and it was a clever use of spices in cocktails to add that distinct flavour and kick.
Interesting Cocktails
I’ve tried a couple of drinks at the bar, and so far none has disappointed me. This glass of ‘City of Flower’ cocktail consists of torch ginger flower, hibiscus, honey and gin. Their selection of cocktails is fascinating, and it would take you a while to decide what you feel like having for that evening. The mocktails or ‘no-alcohol cocktails’ are perfect for the health-conscious individuals because the ingredients used are mostly fruits and vegetables. I would recommend their ‘Superfood’ cocktail which is packed with wolfberry, chia seeds, watermelon and lemon.

Rose, cinnamon, almond, lime, pineapple
Art of Liquor
Don’t be fooled by its colourless appearance. It’s coffee cream liquor.
Origin Grill
After having some drinks, we headed over to Origin Grill which right next to the bar. It was lovely to meet Chef de Cuisine Heidi Flanagan again as we met during a four-hands dinner previously at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. It is also refreshing to see a female chef helming the main kitchen where is usually dominated by male chefs.
The restaurant has an excellent wine selection featuring over 45 artisanal grape varietals from some of the world’s best wine-producing regions.

Foie Gras, buttered spinach and shallot jus with San Felice
We had an assortment of desserts from cakes to exquisite mini tarts. It was a great meal and genuinely enjoy the wonderful ambience at Origin Grill & Bar.
