A Rocky 30
It has been a rocky year. At 30, you start questioning about life and whether what you are doing is all worth it. Although I do not feel like I’ve aged, I am easily exhausted. No matter where you are at, life still goes on. Even at 30, there’s everything worth celebrating. Take it as a celebration of all the things you’ve done and accomplished up until the age of 30. Happy birthday to me!
Birthday Amenities
Upon request, we had a room upgrade from superior to a deluxe room. We also received birthday amenities which comprises of cupcakes and fruit cups. Initially, we thought they forgot our request as we could not find them in our room. It turned out that they kept the fruits and cupcakes in the fridge.
Since it was also our 3rd love anniversary together as a couple, I decided to check into the room earlier to decorate it and give Sam a surprise. The party bunting and foil balloons add a lovely touch to the room. Time to snap away against the beautiful backdrop and then head out to party!
Our Second Staycation at Hotel Jen Tanglin
So, over the weekend, I packed my bags for a 3-day 2-night staycation at Hotel Jen Tanglin. It is a blessing in disguise as it was a prize won during a media event held at the hotel itself. Praise the Lord! We have done a staycation at Hotel Jen Tanglin before, and we were impressed with the overall service and standards at the hotel. This time around, we were equally satisfied with our staycation experience.
Things had not changed at Hotel Jen Tanglin. The place still looks new, modern and swanky.
There is a lot of character to the design of the hotel lobby area. After checking-in, you can help yourself to a cup of refreshing tea at the welcome drink station.
Jen’s Kitchen-On-The-Go
Say hi to Jena
Say hi to Jena. She is their ‘housekeeping’ robot that helps to bring up any requested items to the guest rooms. Need more mineral water? Jena would bring two bottles of water right up to your doorstep.
Our interaction with Jena was intriguing and amusing at the same time. On one particular night, we called housekeeping to bring up more mineral water bottles. After five minutes, our phone rang, and it was an operated auto call to inform us that Jena is stationing right outside our door. Welcome to the 21st century.
Deluxe Room
Upon request, we had a room upgrade from superior to a deluxe room. The layout of the bedroom is similar to the executive room which we have stayed in previously. Our hotel room overlooks the swimming pool and the city. For a standard room size of 25 square metres, it is quite comfortable for the both of us to walk and move around in the room.
Room Amenities
Each room comes with a handy smartphone with free international calls and mobile data usage. I wish overseas hotels have such excellent amenities as well!

Below are some other highlights of our time spent together over the weekend.
May the Fourth Be with You!
My birthday happens to fall on Star Wars Day, and if you have a boyfriend or a husband who is a big fan of Star Wars, you will be asked to tag along to attend any Star Wars event or exhibit. That evening, we rocked to Star Wars soundtrack with the Star Wars band on stage at F1 pit building.
I remembered having a full McDonald meal for dinner before heading going back to the hotel. I cannot deny the fact that Mac burgers and fries are comfort food. You can never go wrong with their shaker fries.
Local Breakfast Affair at J65
Thumbs up for the breakfast buffet spread at J65. I love it that they serve local breakfast items like Laksa, Roti Prata, Kaya Toasts and Nasi Lemak. If I were a tourist in Singapore, these are the local food which I would go for. To us Singaporeans, it may not be as fantastic because we have probably tasted better local food elsewhere. Nonetheless, it is still tasty especially the Laksa!
You got to learn the way we serve and eat our toast with Kaya (coconut jam) and slices of butter.
On the other hand, Sam prefers the continental-style breakfast items like bacon, eggs and hashbrown. Whereas for me, I am still very much a local girl.
Free Comic Book Day!
Was it my idea to queue up for free comics on a Saturday morning? You-know-who was super enthusiastic about receiving his first Dead pool poster and 20 copies of exclusive comics. I soon discovered that there were also children comics which I could use as educational materials in the classroom. Cheers to that!
Surprise at The Marmalade Pantry
I did not expect Sam to throw in birthday surprise for me. He planned a high tea session at The Marmalade Pantry with my pals, Eunice and Vanessa who were my old time Junior College friends. It was a lovely gesture of him planned a mini gathering for my friends and me.
It was an elegant affair over substantial sweet cupcakes and a tiered cake stand filled with scones and bite-sized sandwiches. There were more sweets than savoury items. As you would have guessed, we had a sugar rush. We did not manage to finish the four huge cupcakes on our own. I’ve learnt the hard way – if you cannot finish something, you just had to forgo it and not force yourself to gobble everything up. They will be transformed to ‘fats’ in your body. Consequently, it is just unhealthy. But like many Asians, I hate food wastage in general but what’s gotta go, gotta go.
These are friends which I am not letting go.
Besides all the birthday wishes, I also received a useful gift. It is exactly what I needed.
“And God is able bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8
