PARKROYAL on Pickering sets apart from other hotels in Singapore with its green facade and well-designed eco-friendly interior. The buffet offerings at this hotel’s restaurant, Lime, are also exceptionally good.
Lime Restaurant
Their food and service standards have gone up a notch ever since my last visit here at the Lime which was about 2 years ago. The new buffet offering, ‘Thrill of the Grill’ did not disappoint at all. It is a new outdoor meat and seafood grill buffet that offers grill gourmands the opportunity to savour char-grilled meats and seafood, cooked right off the grill.
Thrill of the Grill
The buffet line is extended to the front porch of the restaurant where the barbeque station is. The chefs are also stationed there to grill the meats and seafood to smoky perfection. You can expect to enjoy grill favourites like Lamb Shish Kebabs, Wagyu Beef Cubes, Pork Belly Char Siew and Chicken Tandoori. There also a selection of seafood like Seabass in Spicy Yellow Sauce, Sambal Marinated Squid, Oyster Kicap Manis and Clams with Kam Heong sauce.
If you would like to have a hands-on grilling experience, you can head over to the grilling station and grab yourself a pair of tongs. Your clothes might be reeking of the sweat and smoke after the BBQ session, but nothing beats the satisfaction of eating your own grilled food!
The Interactive Kitchens
I like the concept of interactive kitchens where you can watch the chefs in action as they prepare the dishes on the spot. They are also there to assisting in prepping the dishes to your liking and answer any queries you have about the dishes they served. As such, you will be able to get an immersive food experience as you walk along the buffet stations to try out the dishes.
That evening, there was an interesting line-up of both international and local specialties like Singapore Rojak, Mushroom Risotto, Prata Rosti, Laksa noodles, Chili Crab Pasta, and Kueh Pie Tee.
I love Rojak, and so I headed to the Singapore Rojak station first. I was very intrigued by the black-coloured dough fritters (or You Tiao). Is that charcoal-flavoured You Tiao? Overall, I enjoyed my customised plate of Rojak which has a heap of chopped peanuts and consisted of mainly crispy Tau Pok and You Tiao.
I find the salad bar rather impressive as well. And I always recommend having veggies first before going for the mains. Check out the healthy selection of toppings and salad dressings!
What I truly enjoyed about this new buffet line is not the grills but the local delights. The local delicacies like Singapore Laksa, Rojak, Durian Pengat, and other local-inspired dishes served here were to my liking. The local dishes here have that local flavour to it, and they were truly delightful.
Buffet Layout
I also like the buffet layout where each station and dish is clearly labeled and indicated. The board stand displays are attention-grabbing and appealing, thus making it easier for me to locate the dishes that I wanted to try when I wanted a second serving of it.
To make your money worth, the buffet connoisseurs would advise you to chock up as many sashimis, oysters and other expensive seafood. That night, I saw many diners piling their plates with fresh crab legs. When I tried one of these myself, I knew why the diners kept going back for more. The crab meat is so fresh and sweet. If you’re a seafood lover, you might enjoy Lime’s buffets.
Too Sweet for My Tooth
Because the mains were too good, I didn’t have much of a stomach space left for desserts. Nonetheless, the must-try desserts are the Durian Pengat, Black Sesame ice cream (which my partner finds it irresistible) and Gula Melaka ice cream. They even have Raspberry sorbet which was superb. As for the other desserts, they looked heavenly and exquisite too. See those gold flakes coating the lemon meringue cake slices?
My Verdict:
I’ve been to many buffet tastings before, and I have to say that the buffet at Lime is one of the more memorable and enjoyable ones.
