WanBao/Omy Festive Gourmet Food Trail
@Tien Court
Time passed so fast, yeah? Before you knew it, the whole town is painted red and everyone’s in this festive mood.Christmas is around the corner and Chinese New Year is only 2 months away. Restaurants and hotels serving traditional chinese cuisine are on its way of creating new menu to welcome the dragon year. I was born in the year of the Dragon so I am definitely anticipating Year 2012 to come!
Tien Court, a Chinese fine cusine restaurant located on the second level of Copthorne King’s Hotel, is ushering the New year with its authentic Chinese New Year menu which features a couple of dishes prepared in a homely way. In chinese, we say ” 有家乡的味道”. These dishes were prepared by Tien Court’s very own panel of chef which includes Taiwanese celebrity chef Ho Tien Tsai who made several appearances on Mediacorp’s TV programmes which includes ” 三菜一汤.”
During the gourmet food trail, Chef Ho has specially presented us with the following signature dishes:
Prosperity Yu Sheng
Deep-Fried Pork Belly marinated with Preserved Beancurd
Smoked Sugar Prawn Chicken
Steamed Sea Bream with Pickled Mustard Plant & Roast Pork
Surprise Dish : Buddha Jump Over the Wall
Glutinous Rice Dumpling on Ice
Nyoya Kueh
Prosperity Yu Sheng
” You are right. The Chinese love tossing their food around. The higher you toss, the richer and prosperous you will become.” This is a great opportunity to start a food fight where you could toss the shreds of vegetables and slices of raw fish at each other. KIDDING.

Smoked Sugar Prawn Chicken
Luck wasn’t on my side when I was asked to go up on stage to play a game. Not only I did not win a prize for the game, I also miss a photo-taking opportunity of this dish. So, here’s that slab of tender chicken served with basil leaves that is lying on my plate.

Surprise Dish : Buddha Jump Over the Wall
It is, indeed, a great wall to jump over. I can’t even see what’s inside from where I was seating. Was I too short?
Chef Ho explained that this was a hometown dish which his Mom usually prepared during Chinese New Year. He took 8 hours to cook the soup base.
I was hoping to dig out some expensive chinese herbs and gorge them down before eating the rest but all I found was some corn, chestnut and gingko nuts.
Glutinous Rice Dumpling on Ice
This has to be one of my favourites because the glutinous rice balls are bright and appetizing. Oh, not to worry, Chef Ho says he only use natural flavourings to color his food.
Nyonya Kueh
This Peranakan confectionary is prepared by the hotel’s chef. The hotel was famous for its Kaya.
