Singapore was once a bustling maritime port where many ships would stopover to trade. In fact, there are a total of 9 lighthouses in Singapore. Can you guess which lighthouse in Singapore has been converted into a restaurant?
This restaurant sitting on top of The Fullerton Hotel was once a beacon.
The Lighthouse Restaurant and Rooftop Bar, perched on the top of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, was once a beacon to seafarers in the 20th-century. It guided them to the safety of the port in Singapore. But today, it is a fine Italian dining and bar spot where you can enjoy the mesmerising views of Singapore’s skyline.
The lighthouse structure is also sitting on one of Singapore’s heritage sites – The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, which was once a General Post Office during Singapore’s colonial era. The historical value of this place adds to the charm of this dining space.
A Fine Italian Dining Restaurant
This restaurant houses an elegant dining room as well as an open-air rooftop bar. Helming the kitchen is Chef Carlo Marengoni, who prepares authentic Italian cuisine with quality produce from Campania, Sardinia and Sicily.
To get to this exclusive restaurant, you will have to take another lift to head up directly to the restaurant. And to get to the washroom, you will need to take the lift to go one floor down.
The exceptional food and impeccable service
Mind you, the very reason why I was compelled to write a review of this restaurant is that the food and service were beyond my expectations. I was there last week for an event (by Wolero Singapore) where I get to enjoy a 3-course set lunch. Boy was I amazed by how fine the food is! I wish I can be back here again to dine at this award-winning restaurant.
And if you are looking for a place which has a good fine-dining restaurant with ‘postcard views’ and Michelin-standard kind of food, this is it. That is if you don’t mind paying more for a truly exquisite meal. If you need to impress someone (*hint, hint), this may be that perfect intimate setting for you to present your ring.
Unfortunately, I did not get to check out the open-air rooftop bar above the dining room. From the bar itself, you will get to enjoy unobstructed 360-degree views across the city skyline. The Rooftop Bar offers a unique Italian-bar experience, with finely-executed cocktails and delicious Italian tapas.
Appetizer
Antipasti Seafood Trio, Lime-marinated Amberjack, Gratinated Alaskan Crab, Giant Scallop (Trittico Della Baia)
Mains
Cod Fish, Tomatoes, Tropea Onions, Mediterranean sauce (Bianco Di Merluzzo Cipolle Di Tropea E Salsa Mediterrania)
The codfish was excellent. The meat is so sweet and tender. Can fish even taste this good on its own?
Dessert
Wild Berry Compote, Meringue, Vanilla Chantilly (Meringata Di Frutti Di Bosco)
To end of the sumptuous meal, we had a choice of having a cup of coffee or tea.
The Lighthouse restaurant is most certainly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Singapore. And it had most certainly ‘illuminates’ Singapore’s fine dining scene.
I truly wish that I could have a chance to do a staycation here one day at this heritage hotel. Til then, I could only marvel at its elegant interior.
