Bukit Timah is a haven for Korean food lovers. There are numerous Korean eateries in that particular area and many of them are run by Koreans living in Singapore. Among the many, there are a couple of really popular ones like this restaurant called O.BBa Jjajang which is located along the stretch of Cheong Chin Nam Road, where there’s a string of eateries by the main road.

I came across this restaurant while searching for some good food in that area. Apparently, they have another outlet at Tanjong Pagar area too and both outlets are stated to have a long queue. True enough, there was a queue that evening but thankfully, it wasn’t that long as it was probably a weekday evening.

We got a queue number and were told to wait till we receive a phone call from them. After about 15 minutes or so, we were called to go in. We were ushered by this Korean dude who spoke English with a heavy Korean accent. We could not make out what exactly he was saying but he seems polite.

The moment we stepped in the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by their staff which comprises of mostly Koreans. It really seems like you’re dining in a restaurant in Korea. The vibe there is just different.

Jjajangmyeon

Jjajangmyeon is their signature dish here. Almost every diner there would order this Chinese-style Korean noodle drenched in black bean sauce and topped with sliced cucumber and diced pork.

The portion is huge and one regular-size bowl of noodles can feed about 2 to 3 people. It was actually very filling for the two of us. It is no wonder that many people would order this dish.

This is my first time having Korean Jjajangmyeon so I am not too sure whether this tastes authentic or not. But I am not that into the taste of this dish because the noodles are very mushy. I also felt that there isn’t much ingredients in it except for the copious amount of black bean sauce.

Sundubu-jjigae

Besides their Jjajangmyeon, we also tried their Sundubu-jjigae. It comes with a bowl of rice. The soft tofu stew was really thick and flavourful. It actually went pretty well with the steamed rice. The stew was steaming hot and it was packed with ingredients. It definitely makes a satisfying dish to have for lunch or dinner.

Most of the diners sitting around us actually ordered their BBQ items so I guess they might be more popular for their Korean BBQ. I would have love to try that we were feeling kind of full with the huge bowl of Jjajangmyeon.

Overall, we enjoyed the Korean dining experience here. At the end of our meal, they even gave each of us a mini bottle of Yakult. That drink helps to cleanse the palate. Their service is good and if you just want to find an authentic Korean dining experience, this is it.
