iHerb Organic Food Haul : Granola and Cereal Edition

Untitled
Each time I shop at iHerb, I like to select similar food items of different brands to that I can taste, compare and feature these products right here! Today’s edition is Granola. I picked some of the best-selling granola and cereal to try. In my opinion, granolas are awesome breakfast items because they are high in fibre. Its prices might be quite steep but it is totally worth it and it goes great with fruits and milk.

I also included some other ingredients into my shopping list as I wanted to make a vegan pizza using a burrito wrap.

I have to say that this haul is pretty good. I used up almost all the ingredients within 2 weeks.

This chocolate granola is very delicious. This will satisfy any chocoholics. I especially love the freeze-dried strawberry bits in the granola mix. It’s totally worth the buy and this is indeed the best among the ones I bought. I personally like granola to have a nice crunchy texture.
It’s naturally sweet and can be eaten alone as a snack.

Kashi, GoLean Crisp!, Naturally Sweetened Multigrain Cluster Cereal, Toasted Berry Crumble, 14 oz (397 g)

If you something a little lighter, this naturally sweetened multigrain cluster cereal is not too bad. It’s crispy whole oat clusters has an interesting taste – almost like a rice puff but bigger and crunchier.

Cascadian Farm, Organic, Granola, Dark Chocolate Almond, 13.25 oz (375 g)

This is pretty good too as it is crunchy and has a nice mixed of cereal with crisp rice, almond, whole grain oats and cocoa. It has a more natural taste as compared to the other two granola/cereal products. The chocolate bits in the mixture is the star of this granola mix. It tasted just like chocolate chips.

Ingredients: Whole grain oats*, sugar*, whole grain wheat*, whole grain barley*, rice* semisweet chocolate chips* (sugar*, chocolate liquor*, cocoa butter*, dextrose*, soy lecithin*, vanilla*), sunflower oil*, tapioca syrup*, almonds*, molasses*, sea salt, malted barley extract*, soy lecithin*, vanilla flavor*. Nothing beats this pure vanilla powder. Even the typical store-bought pure vanilla essence does not have that distinct vanilla taste like this vanilla powder has. Vanilla powder is actually grounded vanilla beans so you don’t have to put the actually vanilla beans and scrape the seeds from the actual seed pod itself.

It’s very expensive I must say! It costs me about 20 over bucks for a small jar of the vanilla powder but it is totally worth it.

I wanted to use a tomato-based pasta sauce for my pizza and thus, I went with this canned pasta sauce.  I’ve not tried this out yet but looking at its ingredient list, it should taste quite a flavourful with all the herbs and spices added.
Ingredients: Organic Roma tomatoes, organic extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, organic basil, organic oregano, organic black pepper, organic roasted garlic, organic dried onion, organic thyme.

This is the popular zero calorie noodles which are made only made from glucomannan (fiber). Glucomannan is a natural dietary fiber taken from the roots of the konjac plant or elephant yam.

Although it might have this fishy scent when you first open it, the scent is quite mild and it can be masked easily by other ingredients. I use it to cook stir-fried noodles and it tasted just like glass noodles.

The only drawback is the price of the noodles which don’t come as cheap. It is about $3 per pack which contains about 2 servings.

There’s no difference in nutritional value between white and red quinoa but some preferred red quinoa because of its vibrant colour. For me, I am probably going to use red quinoa to make sushi rolls.
I was a little disappointed as the chocolate bar was crunched when I opened the box. Not too sure if I damaged it on my way back home from the post office or it has already been squashed by other problems packed in the box. But it’s surprising a good gluten-free vegan chocolate bar using rice milk instead of dairy milk. I was just surprised how small it is as I thought it was a huge pack of chocolate.
