So for this Christmas, why not gather your family and friends for a fuss-free Christmas lunch or dinner gathering over some delicious hearty treats? If you’re looking for a special Christmas delivery meal, look no further because The Hainan Story is offering a really great Christmas bundle meal at a great price.
Santa Parcel with Love Festive Bundle (SGD 158)
We tried The Hainan Story’s Santa Parcel with Love Festive Bundle which is a 4-course set that feeds 4 to 6 pax comfortably. But since they are generally generous with the portions, we felt that this festive bundle might be more suitable for a party of 6 hungry adults.
The bundle comprises of the following:
- The Hainan Story Chocolate De Beau X’mas Logcake Made with KITKAT (1 Kg)
- Hainanese Crackling Crispy Pork Roulade with Vegetables (1 Kg)
- Buttered Crust Hainanese Mega Curry Chicken Pie (1kg)
- Cream of Truffle Wild Mushroom Soup (1kg)
- Mini Crispy Croissants (5 pieces)
What’s really special about this festive bundle is that some preparation is required so that you can serve the food fresh and hot. The food comes in vacuum packs where you have to heat them up and serve them within an hour. Hence, if you’re planning a gathering, you will need to take that into consideration so that you will be able to prep the food before your guests arrive.
We took around 45 minutes to heat up and prepare all the dishes using the microwave oven. You can heat the food up with a conventional oven, microwave oven or an Airfryer. I would personally recommend using a preheated oven or air fryer to heat up the food so that you can attain the crispiness of the food.
Hainanese Crackling Crispy Pork Roulade with Vegetables
The juicy pork belly is marinated in spices like fennel, anise seed, rosemary, sage powder, paprika and cinnamon powder and further flavoured with garlic and Dijon mustard. It is stored in a vacuum pack to retain its freshness. To prepare, simply air fry the roulade for 1 hour at 150°C or microwave at high heat (1000w) for 7 mins before baking in an air-fryer or preheated oven for 10-15 minutes at 150°C.
The pork belly comes along with roasted vegetables and pork jus sauce. You can also boil them, in their respective bags, in a pot of hot water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Serve the roulade with vegetables, pork jus and Dijon mustard.
The pork roulade was delicious! It was indeed flavourful and the meat was tender. The crackling crispy pork roulade skin would be crispier if you roast it a little longer using a preheated oven.
Buttered Crust Hainanese Mega Curry Chicken Pie
The curry chicken pie is like a massive curry puff. It is stuffed with boneless curry chicken cooked in fragrant coconut curry, green peas and onions. It has a spicy kick to it so if you’re a spicy lover, you will dig into this. We also highly recommend that you heat up the pie in a preheated oven at 150 degrees celsius for about 20 to 25 minutes and serve while hot.
The shortcrust was crisp and buttery but it was not really thick enough to hold the creamy curry chicken which soaks through the crust if you leave it out for some time. The pie itself was delicious but it was a little difficult to enjoy it as a pie with the fillings which was slightly runny.
Cream of Truffle Wild Mushroom Soup
The creamy soup comprises celery, onion, leek, mushrooms and truffles. It is thick, creamy and delicious. To heat it up, you will need to boil the mushroom soup in its bag for about 15 minutes and then toast the mini croissants at 160 degrees celsius for about 10 minutes. Serve the mini croissants with the truffle wild mushroom soup. We only wish that they gave us more mini croissants!
Hainan Story Chocolate De Beau X’mas Logcake Made with KITKAT
The highlight of the festive bundle is probably this beautiful Limited Edition Chocolate Christmas log cake which is made with KITKAT. It is a special partnership between The Hainan Story and KITKAT.
The cake has a brilliant dark chocolate glaze which is covered with gold dust. It is a decadent chocolate sponge cake rolled into a shape of a log, layered with a rich filling of dark and milk chocolate cream with KITKAT wafer bits, mascarpone cheese, KITKAT spread and chocolate pearls.
The cake is soft, moist and very chocolatey indeed. Slice it up and serve with a cup of coffee or tea to end your Christmas meal on a sweet note.
Overall, the quality of the food is superb. The only downside is that you need to set aside time to heat up the food and serve them. But it still saves time as long as you don’t have to cook them from scratch. Also, it is quite a great deal if you purchase the festive bundle which also includes the Xmas Log cake.
