If you often colour your hair, you will realise that over time, your hair weakens and is prone to breakage. I witness it firsthand for myself. I used to change my hair colour every 3 to 4 months and when I was much younger, my hair could take it. But after dyeing my hair repeatedly, my hair has weakened and lost its shine. This is why it is important that if you do want to dye your hair frequently, you have to do regular hair treatments and opt for less damaging hair colouring services if possible.
EX style has recently launched a new hair colouring service called Luminaire Hair colour which is formulated in Japan. It utilises a cutting-edge technology called Tressynergy (TSS) Silk Technology which restores and protects the hair during the colouring process. I was invited to try out this revolutionary hair colouring service at one of their outlets and here’s the full review of the whole process.
Luminaire Hair colour
The Luminaire hair colouring service starts from $149 for those with short hair length, as quoted on their website. They also did their signature hair treatment – Jekemi 3-step hair treatment (from $229) as well. It was a much-needed hair treatment as my hair was in a rather dry and brittle condition.
Benefits of Luminaire Hair Colour
- improving the density of the hair cortex
- enhance hair elasticity to prevent breakage
- help the hair retain moisture longer with Isostearoyl Hydrolysed Silk
- protect the hair and reinforce hair structure with Cysteine
- contains very low ammonia content, thereby minimising damage to the hair
It was my first time at EX Style hair salon and I was surprised that they have several outlets in Singapore. This outlet is at Woodleigh Mall and thus the salon looks rather new.
I was ushered to a seat and served me a cup of hot fruit tea with some biscuits. I was surprised that they also did a brief neck massage at the start of the treatment and even offered a hot towel.
Picking a hair colour
I was shown this hair colour range where I could pick out a hair shade that I wanted. The colour range is quite wide. Luminaire is a non-bleach hair colour series so that explains why the majority of the hair shades are dark.
I knew I could only opt for darker colours since my hair is dark but I had no idea which tone to do for. The stylist recommended a dark brown shade with cool undertones. It didn’t take long for me to proceed with his recommendation because I know that cool tones work well with my skin tone.
Jekemi Treatment
Before colouring, they started the Jekemi treatment as a form of pre-colouring treatment to protect the hair during the colouring process. It comprises of Hydrolysed Keratin, Ceramide and Isostearoyl Hydrolysis Silk to restore damaged hair and keeping the hair soft and silky smooth.
After doing all the necessary steps to protect the hair, the stylist proceeded to colour my hair starting with the roots. The colouring and treatment process takes about 2 hours. The steps are quite straightforward.
After leaving the hair dye on my hair for about 20 minutes or so, they washed off the dye and applied another treatment solution to my hair. My hair was then steamed so that the treatment solution could penetrate better into the hair shaft.
Then the stylist rinsed off the treatment solution and blow-dry my hair. Here’s the before and after shot.
Overall, the process was relatively quick and fuss-free. My hair looks shinier and more tamed after the treatment. Hopefully, it will remain as shiny and healthy-looking for the next few weeks.
