Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) has certainly took The Star Vista by storm. GYG a Mexican food chain outlet from Australia and this is their third outlet here in Singapore.
I was there last evening everyone’s there digging into their burritos, tacos, and nachos at this Mexican Taqueria (or taco shop). Want to feast like a Mexicana? You could do it right here at Guzman Y Gomez. From burritos, nachos, quesadillas to churros, they’ve got almost everything covered.
At 6.30pm, the tables were all filled. The crowd is quite adamant too – they aren’t going to leave if they can’t get their burritos! Seeing them looming over our heads made me want to chomp down my food quickly and leave to make space for them. Okay, you get the picture of what the crowd situation is like.
So basically at Guzman Y Gomez or GYG, you head over to the counter, order your food and wait for your food to be served. The food was served pretty quickly so there isn’t much waiting time unless if you are getting a table. I would suggest doing a takeaway instead and enjoy your taco at the open seating area at The Star Vista. There are plenty of seating spaces there anyway.
So at GYG, you could order a burrito, burrito bowl, nachos, tacos, quesadillas or salads with the type of filling you want. There are 9 different kinds of fillings to choose from! There’s chicken, steak, roasted beef, pork, fish and veggie fillings for vegetarians.
Their beverage menu is pretty interesting too. They serve frozen cocktails, corona, mexican beers, apple cider and Jarritos, a mexican soft drink. We had Jarritos and Margarita.
GYG’s corn chips
I had nachos topped with melted jack cheese, vegetarian black beans, salsa, guacamole and veggie filling. The portion is quite big and they are pretty generous with the amount of guacamole. Maybe I was hungry that evening because I wiped out all the nachos in a few minutes.
We also ordered hard tacos with salsa and slow roasted beef filling. There weren’t alot of meat chunks in it but it was real cheesy and that hard taco shell was real crunchy.
There’s always this memorable dish you will have at your favourite food joints, cafes or restaurant, right? And the most memorable GYG food for me was not their nachos but churros. This cinnamon sugar-coated Spanish donut stick is one of the most sinful things I’ve tasted in my mouth. I would have resisted eating this if they just served churros on its own. But these people at GYG are pretty cunning – they whipped up a special chocolate dipping sauce that made these churros so addictive and unforgettable. I’m not sure if it is one of the best in Singapore or whatsoever but it is enough to lure me back to GYG for more I guess.
Also, Guzman y Gomez will be holding a series of upcoming Instagram contests for their customers! All you have to do is to follow them on Instagram @guzmanygomezsg, and stay tuned!
