If you are ever stopping over in Singapore to travel for a bit on a tight budget, there’s this cosy boutique hostel here in Singapore which would provide the best tools for you to navigate around Singapore and getting to know our melting pot of cultures.

5footway.inn has totally changed my impression of no-frills hostel accommodation. Currently, it is the biggest hostel chain in Singapore with properties located in the heritage-rich Chinatown, Boat Quay and Kampong Glam vicinity. It has just made it more affordable for travellers who just want to find a pleasant and clean place to bunk in for the night.

Unlike other hostels, they provide more than just a bed. There’s artistic corner for you to watch TV, grab a coffee, read a book and have breakfast with a scenic view of Boat Quay and Singapore River at the backdrop. It’s definitely postcard-worthy.

Where else can you get such a spectacular view of Singapore which was once a busy port?

During the day, you can cover all the other local attractions like the museums and when night falls, it’s a great time to just walk along Singapore River, exploring Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area. The nightlife here in Singapore is pretty lively too.

The hostel is just 5 minutes walk from Raffles Place MRT and the location is just perfect. It is situated along the stretch of restaurants, pubs and bars along Boat Quay, facing the Singapore River. During weekends, it might get somewhat noisy since the restaurants and pubs are all within close proximity. But you can always ask for earplugs at the front desk for a restful night.

It wasn’t difficult to spot 5footway.inn! Upon entering the hostel, there’s already a mini lobby area for guests to sit down and mingle with other travellers. And if you turn to your left, you will enter the reception area where you would be greeted by their friendly staff.

If you have any queries or doubts, you can also email them or ask 5FW Trabbie. They are so prompt in replying my enquiries! It is a personal travel concierge app in Singapore and is within reached 24/7!

The check-in was fuss-free. You would just need to pay a refundable deposit of $20, grab your room card, towels and a mobile device with unlimited 4G data and international calls to selected countries, during your stay. Which hotels in Singapore even provide such perks?

And if you need to surf the net, you can do so at their reception area using their Mac desktops. Free access to WiFi is available throughout the hostel.

Safety cannot be compromised. The reception is available 24 hours and the entire hostel is equipped with CCTVs for security.

Yes, I’ve bunked in for a night at 5footway.inn and boy was I glad that I had the opportunity to do a mini staycation in a central location in Singapore to experience the nightlife here. Even though I am more of a morning person, I still enjoy taking night walks in the evening. The city looks different when the blanket of darkness falls with the lights sparkling against the night sky.

We booked a standard Triple room which is meant for 3 people. The room has a window but it is facing the back alley so we kept it close throughout the night.

The room is kept clean and there’s even a rug by the bed to keep your feet warm. The walls looked freshly painted and the beddings are clean too. Pillows and blankets are provided.

We have to use the shared toilets and shower areas which are quite small. The 2-in-1 soap which can be used for both hair and body is also provided for all guests.

All the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with mini bedside shelf that has a powerpoint hidden inside and a lightbulb.

There is also some storage space below the bed to store your items.

My favourite area in the hostel is the terrace where you get to enjoy a breath-taking view of Marina Bay Sands, the old parliament house, Singapore River, Asian Civilisation Museum, as well as the skyline of the Central Business District.
The terrace also houses Gallery 76, a photo gallery displaying beautiful black and white photographs by internationally renowned photojournalist Edwin Koo.

At the terrace, water and hot beverages such as coffee, tea and milo are available 24 hours a day and all guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast consisting of cereals, toasts, fruits and local snacks like Kuehs.

All the utensils, bowls and plates are available in the pantry. You have to wash after each use using the dishwashing liquid and sponges provided at the sink area. They also have a fridge for common use too.

There’s also a cosy area for you to watch TV or catch up with your readings.

After dinner, I would recommend you to try one of the nearby restaurants for some local or international cuisine.

Sam and I decided to dine at Dallas Restaurant because we both feel like going for western.

We get to dine by the riverfront and it was so romantic to be out at this late hour, savouring your food slowly while spending some quality time with your loved ones.

After a satisfying meal, we decided to go for night walks to explore the vicinity and get a taste of the nightlife here in Singapore. It happens to be Oktoberfest so there were many who are drinking beer and dancing merrily at Clarke Quay area where all the pubs and clubs are found.

This Turkish man who sells Turkish ice cream is still manning his stall after so many years! He is still performing his same tricks of entertaining his customers as he made it difficult for them to grab the ice cream from him.

We headed back to the hostel around midnight and we were all dead beaten. It was a little noisy night but it didn’t affect me as much as it did for Sam. He said that he heard a bunch of guys who sang karaoke at the top of their lungs throughout the night!

4K8A9773
Wakey, wakey! We woke up feeling quite hungry and it is comforting to know that there’s food ready in the terrace. We had some cereals, toasts, apples and Ham Chee Peng or Chinese doughnuts for breakfast.

After breakfast, we decided to check out as we need to leave for an event at Suntec in the morning. The check-out timing is 12pm but if you still have some time left before leaving Singapore, you can store your luggage at the luggage storage area.
