I decided to take some time off in June to give myself a health retreat where I would exercise and eat clean everyday. While my colleagues will be jet-setting off to another country, I would be staying right here in Singapore to experiment with healthy recipes in the kitchen.
Most of the times I prepare my meals according to what I have in the fridge. The other day, I found so many oranges and grapefruits in the fruit storage so I thought I might as well whip up a smoothie using all these fresh fruits! As far as possible, I would try to eat as much fruits as vegetables as I can because such food are perishable and they go bad really easily even if you kept them well refrigerated.
Sunshine Citrus Smoothie
1 Grapefruit
2 Oranges
1/2 cup of Organic Quinoa milk
Quinoa milk itself has a sweet taste (due to the presence of agave nectar syrup already added) so does it help neutralize the sourness found in citrus fruits. I bought a packet of Quinoa milk from the organic food section in NTUC Xtra. It’s a brand by EcoMil. Once again, such non-dairy and lactose-free might be quite costly so it would be great if you can make quinoa milk at home. I will try it real soon!
Both oranges and grapefruits are pools of vitamin C but what really differs between these two fruits is the presence of lycopene that is found in grapefruit to it that reddish or pink colour in its flesh. Lycopene is an antioxidant which can prevent cancer like prostate and colon cancer.
Well, if you don’t like smoothie, you can juice up these citrus fruits too!
