The newly opened Chatterbox Cafe at WEAVE is the latest addition to the Chatterbox family, which is known for their Mandarin Chicken Rice. Despite the additional “cafe”, this new outlet still serves up familiar local favourites – just in a modern, lush setting. During our visit, we managed to try their drinks, dishes and desserts, all of which left us beyond satisfied.
Located at WEAVE @ RWS
Located right outside Universal Studios Singapore, WEAVE is Resorts World Sentosa’s new green and sustainable mall. This three-storey, open-air development is also pet-friendly, though you might want to visit in the morning or evening to avoid the midday heat. While only a handful of outlets like Chatterbox Cafe, Din Tai Fung, Chagee and some others have opened their doors, the mall shows plenty of promise. Once fully launched, WEAVE is expected to offer more diverse dining options for tourists and locals alike exploring Sentosa.
To get to Chatterbox Cafe, first head to Universal Studios Singapore – you won’t miss WEAVE, the large, wavy green mall right next to it. The café is tucked away at a corner on the second floor, directly opposite Din Tai Fung.
Chatterbox Cafe offers a modern and peaceful atmosphere, making it a great spot to rest up while enjoying a local meal. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas, with the indoor space offering a cool, comfortable respite from Singapore’s heat. The outdoor area is perfect for breezy evenings, though it can get a little warm during the afternoon. Pet lovers will be glad to know that you are welcome to bring one furry friend per table if you choose to dine alfresco.
Drinks
We tried two of their drinks – the Signature Chatterbox’s Punch Cocktail and the Peach, Yuzu & Tamarind Slushie – and both were refreshing choices that felt well worth the price.
The cocktail, made with gin infused with chilli, vanilla, cinnamon, lemon, and banana, sounded intimidating at first. I mean chilli in a drink? But surprisingly, there was no spiciness at all. Instead, the drink had a strong, aromatic blend, with the alcohol taste standing out in a pleasant way.
The Yuzu & Tamarind slushie, on the other hand, was sweet with a gentle tang, making it a perfect icy treat for Singapore’s heat.
Grilled Satay ($15 for 6 skewers)
We went for the all-chicken option for the grilled Satay, though you can also choose beef or a mix of both. Each skewer is binchotan-grilled and served with the classic sides of onions, cucumber, ketupat, and a rich, sweet-savoury peanut sauce that ties everything together beautifully. The aroma alone was mouthwatering, with the flavours deeply infused into the meat. The chicken chunks were lean yet incredibly moist and tender, and what really impressed us was how they managed to grill them so perfectly – without a single char mark in sight. Personally, I would eat all six skewers myself, but you can definitely share this as well.
Sweet and Sour Kurobuta Pork ($22)
The Sweet and Sour Kurobuta Pork is a classic dish – your familiar 咕噜肉. The Kurobuta pork is deep-fried and then wok-tossed in just the right amount of vibrant sweet and sour glaze, striking a nice balance without being overly sticky or cloying. It’s a crowd-pleaser that is hard to go wrong with, and the portion size makes it ideal for sharing between three to four people.
Stir-fried King Prawns with Palm Sauce ($26)
The Stir-fried King Prawns with Palm Sauce came with about four to five large, fresh prawns, each generously coated in a caramelised palm sugar glaze. The sauce delivered a bold, wok-fired aroma with a delicious sweetness that we really enjoyed, though it did lean a little on the salty side.
Chilli Crab ($168) ( approx. 1.2kg)
The Chilli Crab was a real treat – the crab itself was fresh and naturally sweet, perfectly paired with a robust chilli sauce made from fresh spices you could actually taste. Unlike the usual sweeter Singapore-style chilli crab, this version had a spicier, more tangy kick that we preferred, as it was not overly cloying. And of course, no chilli crab experience is complete without mantou – crisp on the outside, warm and fluffy inside, perfect for soaking up every last bit of that addictive sauce.
Char Kway Teow ($22)
The Char Kway Teow pays homage to one of Singapore’s most beloved hawker dishes, featuring flat rice noodles stir-fried with Vannamei prawns, juicy cockles, fish cake, vegetables, egg, and a drizzle of sweet soy sauce. However, we felt that it was missing the signature “wok hei” flavour – the deep, smoky aroma you get from cooking over a roaring fire. While still a comforting plate overall, it lacked the bold, charred edge that usually defines a great char kway teow.
Mandarin Chicken Rice ($23) (Individual Set)
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying Chatterbox’s famed Mandarin Chicken Rice – the dish that put them on the map. It is served with a bed of fragrant jasmine rice that is light and not overly oily, alongside a warm bowl of chicken soup that, while comforting, was fairly standard. You can choose between chicken thigh or breast, both boneless for easy eating. The chicken itself was tender and soft, though it didn’t carry much flavour on its own. That said, the dish really comes alive when paired with any of the three signature sauces – chilli sauce, ginger purée, or dark soya sauce – which each added a bold lift to the otherwise subtle flavours.
Currently, Chatterbox Cafe is having an exclusive launch promotion from now till 3 August 2025. With every order of the Mandarin Chicken Rice set, you get to enjoy free flow rice (available for dine-in only).
Desserts
Sweet Platter ($13)
We tried their Sweet Platter, which features a delightful mix of traditional Peranakan kuehs – Sago Bandung, Kueh Bengka, Pulut Bengka, and Sarang Semut, with two bite-sized pieces of each. The portion is just right for sampling a variety of flavours without feeling too heavy, and it is a great way to reconnect with traditional Singaporean sweets. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this dessert adds a touch of heritage to your dining experience.
From now till 31 July 2025, the first 50 customers each day will receive a complimentary 8-piece Sweet Platter for the table, as part of their exclusive launch promotion.
Signature Coconut Ice Cream ($13)
The Signature Coconut Ice Cream was a real showstopper – two generous scoops of fragrant, not-too-sweet coconut ice cream served in a coconut husk, topped with crunchy walnuts and a skewer of tropical fruits for a vibrant finish. The walnuts added a lovely crunch that contrasted perfectly with the creamy texture of the ice cream. It is technically good for sharing between two, but honestly, it was so good, I wouldn’t want to share this.
Chendol ($7)
We also tried the Chendol, a classic Singaporean dessert that is always a crowd favourite. This version came topped with a generous heap of green rice flour jelly, and the attap chee (palm seeds) were soft and perfectly cooked. What stood out most was the rich aroma and taste of gula melaka, which gave it that signature depth of flavour. While it was pretty standard overall, it still hit the spot if you are looking for a familiar, comforting end to your meal.
Verdict
Overall, Chatterbox Cafe is definitely worth a visit – we loved the calm, modern ambience and the solid lineup of local dishes, all presented with a touch of refinement. The staff were attentive, and our food arrived promptly with thoughtful touches like gloves and tools provided for the chilli crab, so you can dig in without the mess. If you are looking for a one-stop spot to enjoy Singapore’s beloved flavours in a comfortable setting, this is a great go-to – regardless whether you’re a local or tourist.
