Nuts About Cacao Nibs

So you’ve probably heard of roasted, baked and raw nuts. But have you came across activated nuts before? These are nuts which are soaked in salt water for prolonged hours so that the nuts start to sprout. They are then subjected to dehydration at low temperature to preserve their nutritive value. To me, these activated nuts tasted like baked nuts and I realised that it was easier for the body to digest them as compared to eating raw nuts which have indigestible compounds in them. Through soaking, these indigestible compounds are broken down and therefore it is much easier for our bodies to digest the nuts.
I find that such activated nuts are softer yet slightly crunchy on the outside.  It’s even more delicious when it is coated with a layer of chocolate. Alright, I am not talking about those milk chocolate-coated nuts but nuts coated with healthy raw cacao nibs!
Some may find the taste of raw cacao nibs strange but when paired with activated nuts like cashews together with some coconut flower sugar, it actually helps in enhancing the nutty flavour of the activated nuts. I don’t think that there are any other snacks like Bruneus out there and these rare snacks are made locally here in Singapore.
Bruneus is a brand of Superlative Foods, a local healthy snack food company here in Singapore.Their main ingredients are obtained from a farmer’s cooperative in Sigaran Village, Bali, which consists of 50 small scales, native farmers. All the farmers they work with incorporate organic farming processes and therefore no chemicals, pesticides or fertilisers are used on the crops. The farmers actually develop fertile soil by crop rotation and the use of compost and manure. There’s always a good reason to support companies that work by the fair-trade system and practise sustainability.
There are currently 5 different handcrafted snacks of Bruneus to choose from. The almonds, cashews, and walnuts are my favourites. All the nuts are evenly coated with raw cacao nibs and I really like the added coconut sugar that gels well with all the flavours. It just goes really well with my smoothie and cereal bowl.
The sweet cacao nibs can be eaten as a snack or used as a topping for smoothies or breakfast bowls. You can use it to make raw chocolate bliss balls with it too. It’s a healthier and cleaner alternative to chocolate chips. And cacao nibs are basically roasted cocoa beans which have been crushed into smaller pieces. This is the freshest chocolate chip you will ever get.
The most interesting Bruneus snack would have to be their Chia seeds with raw cacao nibs that come in the cluster. And I guess this is one of the most interesting ways to make chia seeds into a crunchy snack by combining it with other ingredients.
