Virgin Active: Anti-Gravity Yoga – My Favourite Fitness Class

IMG_1971

Virgin Active offers anti-gravity yoga classes where participants would do various yoga poses with the stretchable silk hammocks. It’s one of the signature group fitness classes held there which is not very commonly found in other gyms in Singapore except Celebrity Fitness which uses their own uniquely-designed floating hammocks. Anti-Gravity yoga is now part of this new fitness fad that attracts alot of yogis to try out.
Hatha yoga or anti-gravity yoga? Which is easier? I would say its anti-gravity yoga because you are actually supported by the hammock for most of the poses. With the hammock, doing advanced yoga poses like headstands has become a breeze.

It’s super soft, silky and stretchable. Not to worry, it can withstand heavy weights!

I’ve been attending regular floating yoga classes back in Celebrity Fitness and I really wanted to know what’s the difference between anti-gravity yoga and floating yoga. Conclusion? The floating yoga class is tougher because the instructor would usually get us to do a Vinyasa flow using the hammock at the start of the class. And one of the toughest move is to rest your feet in the hammock while planking. I am always having these ‘milkshake’ hands that couldn’t stop wobbling here and there.

The inversion

I love doing this inversion pose as it felt great to have blood rushing back into your brain. I call this anti-ageing pose because it helps to ‘lift’ with the help of gravity your facial muscles while you hanging upside down.

I always find peace and serenity in the upside down world.
