Move the World with Green Songs

Whenever I felt disconnected with myself and felt like the world was tumbling down, the one thing that could get me on my feet again is music. It is through notes, melodies and soulful lyrics that ground me to the earth and keeps me connected to my heart and soul.I’ve once lost touch with music but now I’m back to embrace what my heart calls for.

People say that music heals the heart and soothes the soul. If music could heal the open wounds of a broken heart, I believe that it could do the same for our ailing earth. That is why songs are written, composed and sung to empower people to feel for the earth and salvage whatever has left for us.

These green songs encodes an important message through its lyrics that we all need to listen to and reflect upon. We don’t have to wait for these green songs to top the Billboard chart before we start sharing them with your loved one, families and friends.
To all musicians out there, there’s nothing more heartening and wise to create music about the environment than to make music which speaks of money and sex.

Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” – Jim Hendrix

1.Pocahontas – Colours of the Wind

This song is a pretty significant song in my life as this was the first song I belted out on stage when I was 13 in school. That was one memorable performance where I felt really connected with Pocahontas.

    Lyrics

You think I’m just an ignorant savage
And you’ve been so many places; I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see, if the savage one is me
How can there be so much that you don’t know?
    You don’t know…
You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name.
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once never wonder what they’re worth
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle in a hoop that never ends
How high will a sycamore grow?
If you cut it down then you’ll never know
And you’ll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind
You can own the earth and still
All you’ll own is earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

“Killers who are, every day, slowly and quietly feeding off of the environment.”

Ana Shell finances a variety of energy projects that help protect mother Earth and the health of millions of innocent people. The song was co-written by Marc Rosenberg.

    Lyrics
Just pretend you are a kid
Just pretend to be a swine
We are all the same at one
    Put at a time
If you kill a little bee
If you step on to the grass
You can kill by say in words
    You can kill physically
We are merelly killers in this world (x2)
    Killers-killers-killers
And the singles for the swine
Don’t think I will ride with one
    We keep everything we care
But we throw away what’s fare
And we fools in what we swear
    So we killing quite slowly
Eating dirt coz we don’t care
    For the people children blare

    3. Tom Lehrer – Pollution

A light-hearted song with catchy tunes and as-a-matter-of-a-fact lyrics. A perfect song to teach the little ones about pollution and the environment.

    Lyrics
    If you visit american city,
You will find it very pretty.
Just two things of which you must beware:
Don’t drink the water and don’t breathe the air.
    Pollution, pollution,
They got smog and sewage and mud.
Turn on your tap and get hot and cold running crud.
See the halibuts and the sturgeons
    Being wiped out by detergents.
Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly,
But they don’t last long if they try.
    Pollution, pollution,
You can use the latest toothpaste,
And then rinse your mouth with industrial waste.
Just go out for a breath of air,
And you’ll be ready for medicare.
The city streets are really quite a thrill.
If the hoods don’t get you, the monoxide will.
    Pollution, pollution,
Wear a gas mask and a veil.
Then you can breathe, long as you don’t inhale.
Lots of things there that you can drink,
But stay away from the kitchen sink.
The breakfast garbage that you throw in to the bay,
They drink at lunch in san jose.
So go to the city, see the crazy people there.
    Like lambs to the slaughter,
    They’re drinking the water
    And breathing the air.
